Summary: 2ND SERMON ON Genesis series

Genesis 1 (2)

In the Beginning God Created

- Read Genesis 1

In the beginning God created. Did you notice, during this time of creation, it lists days?

At the end of verse 5, “There was an evening, and there was a morning, day 1. Verse 8, God called the expanse sky. Evening came and then morning, the second day.

The Bible teaches that God created the heavens and the earth and everything in them in 7 days. 7 literal, 24 hour days.

Gene you don’t really believe that do you? You don’t really believe that everything we see and everything we know was created in 7 literal 24 hour days do you?

Yes I do. I believe this Bible cover to cover. I believe every word of it.

Does it really matter what you believe about creation?

Yes it does. There are those who want to cut out the first 11 chapters of the book of Genesis. They want to do away with the creation account. They want to do away with the account of Noah and a world-wide flood that covered the earth.

Let me ask you my friend, “When people start taking apart the Bible and deciding what parts to believe and what parts not to believe, by what standard do you judge its accuracy? By what standard do you measure its truth?

We are not designed or created to judge the truthfulness of scripture, it was designed and created to judge us.

> 2 Timothy 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

All Scripture is given by the inspiration of God.

> Hebrews 4:12

For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

Scripture judges us, we care not called to judge scripture.

So, when the Bible says that God created the heavens and the earth in 7 days, I believe it. When it says that a flood covered the earth and destroyed all life other than what was on the ark, I believe it. When it says that Jonah was swallowed by a great fish and that he remained in the belly of that fish for 3 days, I believe it. When it says that God parted the Red Sea so Moses and the Israelites could walk through it, I believe it. When it says that the Israelites walked around Jericho for 7 days and on the last day they blew their trumpets and the walls fell down, I believe it. When it says that Jesus spoke and calmed a storm, that He called Lazarus from the grave after 4 days, that He was crucified for my sins, that He was buried and rose again 3 days later, I believe it. When the Bible says that Jesus is coning again to take us all to a place that He has prepared for us, I believe it.

I believe the Bible cover to cover.

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

Genesis 1:1 says, “In the beginning, God created.” There was no preamble, no introduction of God. The Bible simply begins, “In the beginning, God created.” My friends, if we could only get that one fact straight, the rest would come easy. God has created all things.

1. God created the universe – Think for a moment of that first encounter between Satan and Eve in the Garden of Eden. Look for a moment at Genesis 3:1. - Read Genesis 3:1

Here were Adam and Eve in the garden. They had no problems, they had no worries, no disease, no suffering, they had no pain and no death; then came the Devil. In verse 1 he asks, “Has God said . . .?” Then he moves to step 2 of his plan. In verse 4 he says, “Ye shall not surely die.” Then he concludes in verse 4 by saying, “You shall be as gods.” My friends, all of this stuff about the Big Bang, and evolution is nothing more than the same old lie the Devil has been telling from the beginning, “Ye shall be as gods.” The Devil wants to do all he can to convince us that we are nothing more than the result of a cosmic burp that took place some 41/2 to 5 Billion years ago, and he has done all he could to reinforce the idea that there is no Creator, no One that we are responsible to by instilling that lie in the minds of our children.

Adolph Hitler once said, “If you tell a lie long enough and loud enough, and often enough, people will believe it.” By repeating the lie that the world was created by chance again and again and again, over billions of years, some have come to the conclusion that all of life is the result of chance and so there is no Creator to be responsible to.

My friends, I want you to know that the world is not the result of chance; it is the result of Creation.

I believe in God the Creator because:

I. THE BIBLE TEACHES IT

Not only does Genesis tell us that God created the heavens and the earth and that He did so in 7 days, but all scripture testifies to that fact.

> Exodus 20:11 For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day; therefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day and made it holy.

> Isaiah 45:18 For thus says the Lord, who created the heavens (He is the God who formed the earth and made it, He established it and did not create it a waste place, but formed it to be inhabited), “I am the Lord, and there is none else.

> Hebrews 11:3 By faith we understand that the worlds were prepared by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things which are visible.

> John 1:3 By Him were all things made, and apart from Him was nothing made that was made.

> Psalm 33:6 By the word of the Lord the heavens were made and by the breath of His mouth all the hosts.

> 1 Corinthians 8:6 yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom are all things and we exist for Him; and one Lord, Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we exist through Him.

> Revelation 4:11“Worthy are You, our Lord and our God, to receive glory and honor and power; for You created all things, and because of Your will they existed, and were created.”

I believe in God the Creator because the Bible teaches it. I believe in God the Creator because THE WORLD supports it.

II. I BELIEVE IN GOD THE CREATOR BECAUSE THE WORLD SUPPORTS IT

This has not been one of my better weeks and the next couple are not looking all that great either, that’s because of all of the doctors I’m having to see right now. I saw 3 this past week.

Have you ever thought about all of the things that have to work properly in order for us to function?

Your blood pressure has to be just right. If it’s too low you can get dizzy and pass out. If it’s too high you can blow a gasket.

Your blood sugar has to be just right. Too low and you have no energy. Too high and you start having organ issues.

The pressure in your eyes has to be just right. If it gets too high it can cause nerve damage and blindness.

Think of all of the vitamins and minerals that have to be properly balanced in your system in order for all of your systems to function properly.

The clotting factors in your blood have to be high enough to keep you from bleeding to death when you cut yourself, but if they get too high you get blood clots.

Have you ever seen the pictures hanging on the walls of your doctor’s office? Have you looked at the intricacies of how our muscles, and bones, and joints, and blood vessels, and nerves all fit together so perfectly and work together so well?

And think of the human eye. How could such a thing evolve by accident? It has both cones and rods in it so we can see color when there is plenty of light, but so we can also get around with black and white when there is less light.

Charles Darwin himself admitted that the evolution of the eye gave him trouble. He once said, “

“To suppose that the eye with all its inimitable contrivances for adjusting the focus to different distances, for admitting different amounts of light, and for the correction of spherical and chromatic aberration, could have been formed by natural selection, seems, I confess, absurd in the highest degree..

Only a great creator could design something as magnificent and well-working as the human body. How in the world could anyone ever believe such a machine as the human body could happen by accident?

III. I BELIEVE IN GOD THE CREATOR BECAUSE SCIENCE SUPPORTS IT

Brother Gene, what do you mean that science supports it?

Scientific evidence points to a young earth created by God, not a long, drawn out evolutionary process, over billions of years. We know that because of

*the moon. Each year, the moon gets a little further from the earth. Not much, just and inch or so. That means it used to be closer. Now, if you go back a few thousand years, that’s no big deal, but if you go back 1/5 as long as they say the universe has been around, the moon would have been so close to the earth that our gravity would have broken it into pieces, which would be circling our planet like the rings of Saturn.

*the comets. The comets we see are made up primarily of rock and ice. They are basically “dirty snowballs.” Now each time they circle our sun, part of them is blown away by the solar wind, thus giving them a tail. Now, with the amount of material they lose each time they circle our sun, it is estimated that none of them could exist for more than 10 thousand years, yet they are here.

* the magnetic field. The Earth is surrounded by an invisible magnetic field. This magnetic field is what makes compasses point north. Now, our magnetic field is getting weaker all the time. Now, since it is getting weaker all the time, that means it used to be stronger. Dr. Thomas Barnes is a physicist who has studied our magnetic field in great detail. He estimates that 830 to 1400 years ago our magnetic field would have been twice as strong as it is now. Go back another 830 to 1400 years and it would have been 4 times as strong as it is now. According to Dr. Barnes, if we went back 10,000 years, our magnetic field would have been as strong as the sun’s, and would be burning like it. So, our earth could not be any more than 10,000 years old.

* It is has been calculated that our rivers carry 300 million kg of nickel into the oceans each year. The oceans have an estimated 3 trillion kg of nickel in them. If all of this nickel was carried into them by the rivers, the earth could not be over 10,000 years old. Since some of the nickel was probably in the oceans to begin with and some enters the oceans as dust from meteorites, the earth could not be over 8000 years old.

*My friends, there are countless evidences for a young earth. I don’t have time to go into all the reasons, from science, we know the earth is young, so study it for yourself, but know this, God is the Creator of the universe.

Brother Gene, what about all of the early men they have found?

2. God created people – Evolutionists would have us believe that you and I are the result of random chance. That somewhere, millions and millions of years ago, a few chemicals got together, and then, somehow, by chance, life evolved.

Hebrews 11:3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.

This verse says that what we see in the world was made by Christ and that it was not created by what is seen. In other words, it did not evolve out of something that was here. Jesus Christ made it all, instantaneously.

Genesis 1 tells us God created us, man, in His image. We are special. Evolutionists try to tell us that we evolved from apes, that we are not special, and they trot out “missing links” to prove it.

* Java-man, ½-man, ½-ape. They forget to tell you that this whole animal was constructed from 1 skull cap found in 1891, and 1 human thigh bone found a year later, 46 feet away.

* Nebraska man, which was used in the “Monkey trial,” against creationists in the early 1900’s. They don’t tell you the entire man was invented from 1 tooth they discovered. Years after the trial, the rest of the skeleton was found and it turns out the tooth came from a now extinct kind of wild hog.

* Piltdown Man. Around 1900, he was discovered. That entire man was built around a few bone fragments found in a gravel pit. It was 40 years before researchers discovered that he was nothing more than an elaborate hoax. Several bones were taken from a human skeleton & an ape. They were aged with chemicals to look older, and then they were buried in a gravel pit, only to be uncovered 3 years later by the same man who hid them.

- Genesis 3:20, Eve the mother of all living

- Romans 5:12, by 1 man, sin entered the world, & death by sin.

There is no evolution. Though scientists have tried countless times in their laboratories to create life, they have been unable to. As far as anyone has been able to see, pigs come from pigs, cows have baby cows, ducks have baby ducks, and people have baby people, ever since God made them all. My friends, God is the Creator. He is the Creator of the universe and He created us.

But, because of the Devil’s subtleness, his lies and man’s desire to be his own boss, his own God, many have willingly chosen to deny, in spite of the evidence, that God created them.

IV. SINCE GOD CREATED ALL THINGS

Since God created everything

1. He knows how it works best

In the months ahead, off an on, we will be studying the book of Genesis. In this book we find that God designed and created all things. He designed man and woman. He designed the first marriage. He designed the first family.

Since God created all things, He knows best how they work. When He says, “Husbands love your wife as Christ loved the church and gave Himself for her.” He says that because He knows that’s what you need to do, and because He knows that’s what she needs.

When God says, Wives, honor your husbands”, He says that because He knows that’s what we men need, to know that our wives honor and respect us.

When God says for children to honor their fathers and their mothers, He says that because He knows that is necessary for a family to function properly.

When God says that marriage is to be between a husband and a wife and that sex is to be kept within the marriage, He says that because He knows that anything else will destroy a home.

When God says, “6 Days shalt thou labor and do all thy work, but the 7th is the sabbath unto the Lord, on it you shouldn’t do any work”, it’s because He knows how He but us. He knows we need rest, and we need a day each week to remind us why we were created in the first place.

Let me tell you my friend, you will never know joy in its fullest, you will never know a peace that passes all understanding, unless you try things God’s way. Since God created all things, He knows how things work best.

2. Since God created everything, He is the Boss.

Since God created everything, He is the Boss. He gets to make the rules. When God says not to do something, we shouldn’t be doing it. When God says to do something, that’s something we need to be doing.

Since God made everything, He knows how everything works best, so He’s the Boss. We don’t get to argue. We don’t get to pick and choose what rules we will follow and which ones we won’t. He’s the Boss.

Since God created everything He knows how things work best. Since God created everything, He’s the Boss. He gets to make the rules. Since God created everything, one day we will give an account to Him.

3. We shall give an account to Him

In Matthew 25 Jesus tells the parable about a master who went on a journey. Before He left He gave each of His servants talents. To one he have 5 talents, to another 2, and to the third he gave 1 talent. Then he went on a journey.

When he got back he called his servants together to find out what they had done with the talents, he had left with them. The one with 5 talents had earned 5 more. The one with 2 talents had earned 2 more. The one with 1 talent went and buried his. He didn’t use it.

The master was not pleased with the third servant who did not use what he had been given.

Well my friend, I want you to know that each of you have been given a talent as well. Some of you more than others. But God gave you those talents for a reason. And some day, you will have to give an account to your creator for how you have used what He’s given you.

Let me ask you, what are you doing for Christ? How are you using the talents He’s given you?
