Summary: It all begun when Sarah believed. Sarah had gone way past menopause, plus in her child-bearing years she was even barren, but in her old age she said yes to God.

Mothers Who Defy The Odds

Hebrews 11:11-12NKJV

A six-year-old boy, separated from his mother in a supermarket, began to call frantically for “Martha! Martha! Martha!”

That was his mother’s name and she came running to him quickly. “But, honey,” she admonished, “you shouldn’t call me ‘Martha’, I’m ‘Mother’ to you.” “Yes, I know,” he answered, “but this store is full of mothers.”

Pastor, G. Campbell Morgan had four sons and they all became ministers of the gospel. At a family reunion, a friend asked one of the sons, "Which Morgan is the greatest preacher?" While that son looked at his father, he replied without hesitation,”Mother.”

Hebrews 11:11-12NKJV By faith Sarah herself also received strength to conceive seed, and she bore a child when she was past the age, because she judged Him faithful who had promised. 12 Therefore from one man, and him as good as dead, were born as many as the stars of the sky in multitude—innumerable as the sand which is by the seashore.

It all begun when Sarah believed. Sarah had gone way past menopause, plus in her child-bearing years she was even barren, but in her old age she said yes to God.

Verse 11, of Hebrews chapter 11 states, Sarah judged God faithful who had promised.

What has God promised unto you?

Your children?

Your husband?

The salvation of someone whose far away from God.

2 Corinthians 1:20TPT For all of God’s promises find their “yes” of fulfillment in him. And as his “yes” and our “amen”ascend to God, we bring him glory!

Here’s a word from All-Mighty God, “You defy the odds when you dare to believe anyway.” P.H

Again, Hebrew 11:11TPT Sarah’s faith embraced God’s miracle power to conceive even though she was barren and was past the age of childbearing, for the authority of her faith rested in the One who made the promise, and she tapped into His faithfulness.

When mothers dare to believe regardless of natural conditions and circumstances that were facing all around her, everything in the natural points out why it won’t work. Hear this simple word, “keep it solely in the hands of God.”

Verse 11 say’s, “Sarah tapped into His (God’s) faithfulness!”

God works best with barren wombs, and barren things. P.H

It took the faithfulness of Abraham and Sarah; It took faithfulness in spite of a dead womb.

Q&A: What’s dead in your life; What’s lifeless? What needs resurrection?

Romans 8:11AMP And if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead lives in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit, who lives in you.

Let’s give this some more thought—The same spirit who raised Jesus from the grave—from the dead, lives within you. Pentecost lives in you; Revival is rehearsed within!

Hebrews 11:12TPT In fact, so many children were subsequently fathered by this aged man of faith—one who was as good as dead, that he now has offspring as innumerable as the sand on the seashore and as the stars in the sky!

Please hear this word—Don’t make it work.

Genesis 16:1-6NLT Now Sarai, Abram’s wife, had not been able to bear children for him. But she had an Egyptian servant named Hagar. 2 So Sarai said to Abram, “The Lord has prevented me from having children. Go and sleep with my servant. Perhaps I can have children through her.” And Abram agreed with Sarai’s proposal. 3 So Sarai, Abram’s wife, took Hagar the Egyptian servant and gave her to Abram as a wife. (This happened ten years after Abram had settled in the land of Canaan.)

4 So Abram had sexual relations with Hagar, and she became pregnant. But when Hagar knew she was pregnant, she began to treat her mistress, Sarai, with contempt. 5 Then Sarai said to Abram, “This is all your fault! I put my servant into your arms, but now that she’s pregnant she treats me with contempt. The Lord will show who’s wrong—you or me!”

6 Abram replied, “Look, she is your servant, so deal with her as you see fit.” Then Sarai treated Hagar so harshly that she finally ran away.

Mothers who defy the odds aren’t always perfect. In fact, Sarai paid dearly for this illegitimate birth.

I wonder how many Ishmael’s you’ve conceived? I realize, I’ve given birth to my share. P.H

Genesis 17:15-19TM 15-16 God continued speaking to Abraham, “And Sarai your wife: Don’t call her Sarai any longer; call her Sarah. I’ll bless her—yes! I’ll give you a son by her! Oh, how I’ll bless her! Nations will come from her; kings of nations will come from her.”

17 Abraham fell flat on his face. And then he laughed, thinking, “Can a hundred-year-old man father a son? And can Sarah, at ninety years, have a baby?”

18 Recovering, Abraham said to God, “Oh, keep Ishmael alive and well before you!”

19 But God said, “That’s not what I mean. Your wife, Sarah, will have a baby, a son. Name him Isaac (Laughter). I’ll establish my covenant with him and his descendants, a covenant that lasts forever.

God stated to Abraham, “Every time you see your son, he will bring you laughter!”

Hear this word of the Lord, “God can take your silly laugher; He can handle your unbelief. If you’re a mother who needs to defy the odds, Jesus will make sure your laughter is converted to faith.’ ‘He imputed grace and faith your way.” P.H

God sent angel messengers your way:

Genesis 17:9-15TM The men said to him, “Where is Sarah your wife?” He said, “In the tent.” 10 One of them said, “I’m coming back about this time next year. When I arrive, your wife Sarah will have a son.” Sarah was listening at the tent opening, just behind the man.

11-12 Abraham and Sarah were old by this time, very old. Sarah was far past the age for having babies. Sarah laughed within herself, “An old woman like me? Get pregnant? With this old man of a husband?” 13-14 God said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh saying, ‘Me? Have a baby? An old woman like me?’ Is anything too hard for God? I’ll be back about this time next year and Sarah will have a baby.”

15 Sarah lied. She said, “I didn’t laugh,” because she was afraid. But he said, “Yes you did; you laughed.”

Regardless, your lack of laughter, or your laughter because of the impossibility, your laughter because of the largeness of God’s faith. Regardless, God loves impossibilities. P.H

Genesis 21:1-7TM 1-4 God visited Sarah exactly as he said he would; God did to Sarah what he promised: Sarah became pregnant and gave Abraham a son in his old age, and at the very time God had set. Abraham named him Isaac. When his son was eight days old, Abraham circumcised him just as God had commanded. 5-6 Abraham was a hundred years old when his son Isaac was born.

Sarah said, God has blessed me with laughter and all who get the news will laugh with me! 7 She also said, Whoever would have suggested to Abraham that Sarah would one day nurse a baby! Yet here I am! I’ve given the old man a son!

Listen to the apostle Paul’s admiration for Abraham and Sarah.

Romans 4:16-25KJV Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all, 17 (As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.

18 Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be. 19 And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sarah's womb: 20 He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; 21 And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.

22 And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness. 23 Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him;

24 But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead; 25 Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.

Defying all odd—Abraham and Sarah trusted God.

God’s declared you faithful and fruitful for a miracle.

Abraham—100, and Sarah—90. They laughed, but God’s bigger than our laugh.

Mothers, keep your womb—innermost being open for a miracle.

Stagger not at God’s promises. But God…

Refuse to say ‘no’ to the things of God.

Mothers that defy odds, God’s got surprises in store for you!

Benediction.
