Summary: Jesus came and died for our sins and through Him we can now be saved. Jesus also came to give us another very special gift and that is the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Holy Spirit—God on the Inside

“The Helper”

Ephesians 5:18-19(NLT)

18 Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit, 19 singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves and making music to the Lord in your hearts.

We see Paul encouraging us to be filled with the Holy Spirit and not be filled with wine.

Why do people drink alcohol or do drugs? They do it to escape from reality!

We all face things in life and it can be tough sometimes, so God wants us to be filled with His Spirit and not filled with the things of the world!

Luke 4:1 (NKJV)

4 Then Jesus, being filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit [a]into the wilderness,

This is the first time we see the Holy Spirit coming to live in a person. This had never happened before Jesus. But now that He was full of the Holy Spirit then He could be led by Him as well.

What if you are filled with something other than the Spirit of God?

Are you going to be led by Him or what you are filled with?

What are you filled with?

Worry—Fear—Anger—unforgiveness—bitterness

The bible tells us to be filled with the Holy Spirit, who was sent by God to help us live victorious on this earth.

We see God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit all through the bible but I believe that each one has a part in making us a Son and a Daughter of God!

God created you—Jesus saved you—The Holy Spirit filled you!

That is a recipe for a successful and victorious living!

Today I want to talk to you about the Holy Spirit our Helper. How many in this room today or online could use some help?

Help with finances—marriage—forgiveness—healing—anger—worry—bitterness—job—fixing dinner—sleep at night—The Holy Spirit is our great Helper!!

John 14:15-18 New King James Version

Jesus Promises Another Helper

15 “If you love Me, [a]keep My commandments. 16 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another [b]Helper, that He may abide with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.

Do you need some help?

We all need help! The Holy Spirit is the one we need to look to in every situation in life—Big or Small.

Notice in this passage Jesus says that the Holy Spirit dwells with you but will be in you.

What is He talking about?

Jesus is talking about all those that would be filled with the Holy Spirit if they chose. Jesus put it this way in:

Luke 11:11-13 New King James Version

11 If a son asks for [a]bread from any father among you, will he give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent instead of a fish? 12 Or if he asks for an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? 13 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!”

The Holy Spirit will come in your life when you ask Him to! He will never force His way into your life!

Jesus explains more about the Holy Spirit in:

John 16:5-7Amplified Bible 5 “But now I am going to Him who sent Me; and none of you asks Me, ‘Where are You going?’ 6 But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your hearts [and taken complete possession of them]. 7 But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the [a]Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counselor, Strengthener, Standby) will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him (the Holy Spirit) to you [to be in close fellowship with you].

John 16:13 New King James Version 13 However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.

John 16:13 New Living Translation 13 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future.

The Holy Spirit is come to help us in our daily lives. He is the replacement of Jesus standing right next to you to tell you what the right move is to make—right relationship—job—how to fix your lawn mower—how to make a cake—how to raise your kids—should I take a right or left.

The Holy Spirit is a friend that sticks closer than anybody you could name. He will never leave you or forsake you.

How many of you could use some help?

The disciples were sad when Jesus said that He was leaving them, but Jesus knew what was coming! They had no idea what was ahead for them, but Jesus knew that the Holy Spirit was going to equip them with some power and help that they would need to change the world!

If they needed help do you think we need that help as well?

Is anybody hear ever got some bad advice from someone? Bad Counsel? Wrong directions? Bad Job? Bad relationship?

We have all looked to others for direction in life sometimes, but it is not the best move we could make. We have the Holy Spirit available to help us and show us things to come in our future!

The Holy Spirit will show you the future—Who do you know that could do that?

What about fortune tellers?

Acts 16:16-18 New Living Translation

16 One day as we were going down to the place of prayer, we met a slave girl who had a spirit that enabled her to tell the future. She earned a lot of money for her masters by telling fortunes. 17 She followed Paul and the rest of us, shouting, “These men are servants of the Most High God, and they have come to tell you how to be saved.” 18 This went on day after day until Paul got so exasperated that he turned and said to the demon within her, “I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her.” And instantly it left her.

The Holy Spirit is the only one that can tell you the truth about your future!

The Holy Spirit is the presence of God abiding in us to help us and then be able to reach out to help others!

This is why Acts 2 is so amazing! The Holy Spirit has come to live on the inside of all those that have put their trust in Jesus!

Acts 2:1-6 New King James Version

2 When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all [a]with one accord in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 Then there appeared to them [b]divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. 5 And there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men, from every nation under heaven. 6 And when this sound occurred, the multitude came together, and were confused, because everyone heard them speak in his own language.

Acts 2:12-17 New King James Version

12 So they were all amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, “Whatever could this mean?” 13 Others mocking said, “They are full of new wine.” 14 But Peter, standing up with the eleven, raised his voice and said to them, “Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and heed my words. 15 For these are not drunk, as you suppose, since it is only [e]the third hour of the day. 16 But this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: 17 ‘And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God,

That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh;

Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,

Your young men shall see visions,

Your old men shall dream dreams.

Why is it so important that you be filled with the Holy Spirit? So that you can be a witness and overcome in life.

So that we will have the same power Jesus had to witness and overcome in life!!

Let’s pray!
