Now when He got into a boat, His disciples followed Him. And suddenly a great tempest arose on the sea, so that the boat was covered with the waves. But He was asleep. Then His disciples came to Him and awoke Him, saying, “Lord, save us! We are perishing!” But He said to them, “Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?” Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm.

Many of the disciples had spent their life on the sea as fishermen. If a storm was coming, when Jesus suggested going to the other side of the sea, they would have probably said, “I see a storm coming, I feel a storm blowing in. Maybe we should wait.”

1. Matthew tells us it was a sudden storm.

2. Mark simply says a “great storm”.

I would guess it was sudden. Many of life’s storms are sudden.

Hearing a doctor say you have cancer, is a sudden storm. When a spouse is caught being unfaithful, it’s a sudden storm. We’re sorry, but your job is being terminated. There’s been a wreck. There’s been an accident at work. Sudden storms.

And we throw up a desperate prayer, a panic prayer. Just as the disciples did to the one who could help. “Teacher, do you not care if we perish?”

When we throw up a panic prayer, we can be sure that

1. God does not share our panic.

2. God does not get surprised.

3. I don’t ever picture God sitting there saying, “WOW. I never saw that one coming.”

God may show pity on us, God probably feels for us as we panic and worry, but God does not panic and worry.

Someone said,

“We do ill to try to communicate our despair to God. Instead of rushing to communicate our panic to Him, We should allow Him to communicate His calm to us.”

Apostle Paul says: Philippians 4:11-13

That he had learned the secret of facing the storms. He says no matter what, he can make it through with Christ – He said, “I can do all things through Christ, who gives me strength.”

Vs : 25

1. Why are you Afraid?

Looking at the situation around do not panic, don’t worry always remember someone greater that the storm is with you.

The Gospels list some 125 Christ-issued imperatives. Of these, 21 urge us to “not be afraid” or “not fear” or “have courage” or “take heart” or “be of good cheer.” The second most common command, to love God and neighbor, appears on only eight occasions. If quantity is any indicator, Jesus takes our fears seriously. The one statement he made more than any other was this: don’t be afraid.

2. Where is your Faith?

Always believe and have faith on the person who is inside of you. Whatever situation you are going through he will lead you to a safer side

3. What manner of man is this?

1. He is the God who created the heaven’s and the earth.

2. He is the maker of sun, moon and the stars,

3. He is the one who control the wind, storm and the sea.

4. He is the one who made you and me in His own likeness.

He is the on who is with you, willing to help you only thing we need to do is we need to look at him and call him, saying Lord help me.

Jeremiah 33:3

Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.
