8. The king of Babylon

9. The oppressor

The LORD will give you rest from your sorrow, your fear, and the hard bondage in which you were made to serve, so that you will take up this proverb against the king of Babylon, and say,

How has the oppressor ceased! the golden city ceased!

The LORD has broken the staff of the wicked, and the scepter of the rulers.

He who killed the people in wrath with a continual stroke,

he that ruled the nations in anger, is persecuted, and none hinders.

The whole earth is at rest and is quiet. They break forth into singing.

The fir trees rejoice at you, and the cedars of Lebanon, saying,

Since you are laid down, no man has even all the chief ones of the earth come up against us.

Hell from beneath is moved for you to meet you at your coming.

Hell stirs up the dead (even all the chief ones of the earth) for you.

it has raised up all the kings of the nations from their thrones.

They all will speak and say to you,

Have you also become weak like us? Have you become like us?

Your pomp is brought down to the grave, and the noise of your viols:

the worm is spread under you, and the worms cover you. Isaiah 14:1-11

10. The prince of Tyrus

Say to the prince of Tyrus,

The Lord says, Because your heart is lifted up, and you have said,

“I am a God, I sit in the seat of God, in the midst of the seas;”

yet you are a man, and not God, though you set your heart as the heart of God:

You are wiser than Daniel; there is no secret that they can hide from you:

With your wisdom and with your understanding you have gotten riches

and have gotten gold and silver into your treasures.

By your great wisdom and by your traffic you have increased your riches,

and your heart is lifted up because of your riches:

Because you have set your heart as the heart of God,

I will bring strangers upon you, the terrible of the nations:

and they will draw their swords against the beauty of your wisdom,

and they will defile your brightness.

They shall bring you down to the pit, and you will die the deaths of them that are slain in the middle of the seas. Will you yet say before him who slays you, I am God?

But you will be a man, and no God, in the hand of him that slays you.

You will die the deaths of the uncircumcised by the hand of strangers. Ezekiel 28:1-11

11. The king of Tyrus (King of Tyre)

The word of the Lord came to me, saying,

“Son of man, take up a lamentation upon the king of Tyrus

and say to him, ‘This is what the Lord God says;

Seal up the sum, full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty.

You have been in Eden the garden of God;

You were covered with every precious stone,

the sardius, topaz, and the diamond,

the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper,

the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold:

The workmanship of your tabrets and of your pipes was prepared in you

in the day that you were created.

“You are the anointed cherub that covers; and I have set you so:

You were on the holy mountain of God;

You have walked up and down in the middle of the stones of fire.

You were perfect in your ways from the day that you were created

until iniquity was found in you.

By the multitude of your merchandise they have filled the middle of you with violence,

and you have sinned…

Your heart was lifted up because of your beauty,

You have corrupted your wisdom by reason of your brightness…

You have defiled your sanctuaries by the multitude of your iniquities,

by the iniquity of your traffic… Ezekiel 28:12-18

12. The Pharaoh of Egypt, the Assyrian

Ezekiel 31

Speaks of Satan in the Garden of Eden (whole chapter) and his fallen angels (vs 17)

13. Beelzebub,

14. The prince/chief of the devils

The scribes who came down from Jerusalem said, “He (Jesus) has Beelzebub, and he casts out devils by the prince of the devils.” (chief of the devils - Luke 11:15) Jesus said to them, “How can Satan cast out Satan? If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. And if a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand. And if Satan rises up against himself and is divided, he cannot stand, and his end is certain.” Mark 3:22-26

15. The god of this world

In whom the god of this world (god of this age - HCSB) has blinded the minds of those who don’t believe, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. 2 Corinthians 4:4

16. The prince of this world

The prince of this world comes and has nothing in me (has no power over me – HCSB). John 14:30

Speaking of the devil, Jesus said, “There is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks of his own: because he is a liar and the father of it.” John 8:44

Concerning the works of men, by the word of Your lips, I have kept myself from the paths of the destroyer. Psalm 17:4

20. The devourer

Bring all the tithes into the storehouse… and I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes… Malachi 3:11

21. The wicked one

—We should love one another. Not like Cain, who was of that wicked one and killed his brother. 1 John 3:12

—In the parable of the wheat and tares/weeds, “The weeds are the children of the wicked one, and the enemy who sowed them is the devil.” Matthew 13:38-39

22. The enemy

— See Matthew 13:38-39 above

— The seventy returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the devils are subject to us through your name.” And Jesus said to them, “I give to you power… over all the power of the enemy.” Luke 10:17-19

23. The enemy of righteousness

Paul rebuked a sorcerer, a “child of the devil.” In doing so, he described the devil himself.

Paul filled with the Holy Ghost, looked at Elymas the sorcerer and said to him, “You child of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, full of all subtlety and all mischief, will you not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord?” Acts 13:9-10

24. Apollyon or Abaddon

The fifth angel sounded his trumpet, and I saw a star fall from heaven to the earth: and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit. And he opened the bottomless pit; and there arose a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by the smoke of the pit. And locusts came out of the smoke on the earth: and to them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power. They had a king over them, which is the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon, but in the Greek tongue his name is Apollyon.

25. The accuser

The accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night. Revelation 12:10

26. The Anti-Christ (Satan personified/incarnate)

Little children, it is the last time (last hour): and as you have heard that antichrist will come. There are many antichrists even now; whereby we know that it is the last time.

Who is a liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? He who denies the Father and the Son is antichrist. Whoever denies the Son, doesn’t have the Father. 1 John 2:18,22

a. The man of sin

b. The son of perdition

Let no man deceive you by any means: because that day won’t come until there is a falling away first, and that man of sin (the man of lawlessness – ESV) is revealed, the son of perdition (the son of destruction – ESV), who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshipped; so that he as God sits in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God. (So that he takes his seat in the temple of God, proclaiming himself to be God. ESV)

c. The beast

They worshipped the dragon (Satan) which gave power to the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like the beast? Who is able to make war with him?

All whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world that dwell on the earth will worship him.

As many as would not worship the image of the beast would be killed.

All, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, receive a mark in their right hand or in their foreheads.

And no man can buy or sell except he who had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding count the number of the beast, because it is the number of a man; and his number is 666. Revelation 13:4,8,15-18

d. Little horn

I saw a fourth beast in the night visions. Dreadful, terrible, and exceedingly strong, it had great iron teeth, and it devoured and broke in pieces, and stamped the residue with the feet of it. It was different from all the beasts that were before it; and it had ten horns. I considered the horns, and another little horn came up among them, before whom three of the first horns were plucked up by the roots. In this little horn were eyes like the eyes of man, and a mouth speaking great things. Daniel 7:7-8

I watched because of the voice of the great words which the horn spoke even until the beast was slain, and his body destroyed, and given to the burning flame. The rest of the beasts had their dominion taken away: yet their lives were prolonged for a season and time. I saw in the night visions, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him. Dominion, glory, and a kingdom were given to him, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion which won’t pass away, and his kingdom won’t be destroyed. Daniel 7:11-14

Interpretation:

The ten horns out of this kingdom are ten kings that will arise: and another will rise after them; and he will be different from the first, and he will subdue three kings. And he will speak great words against the most High, and will wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time (1 yr) and times (2 yrs) and the dividing of time (1/2 yr) (Totaling 3 ½ years). But the judgment will sit, and they will take away his dominion, to consume and to destroy it to the end. And the kingdom and dominion, and the greatness of the kingdom under the whole heaven, will be given to the people of the saints of the most High, whose kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey him. Daniel 7:24-27

And out of one of them came a little horn, which grew exceedingly great, toward the south, and toward the east, and toward the pleasant land. And it grew great, even to the host of heaven; and it cast down some of the host and some of the stars to the ground, and stamped on them.

He magnified himself even to the prince of the host, and by him the daily sacrifice was taken away, and the place of his sanctuary was cast down. And an host was given him against the daily sacrifice by reason of transgression, and it cast down the truth to the ground; and it practised, and prospered.

Then I heard one saint speaking to another saint. He said to that certain saint which spake, How long shall be the vision concerning the daily sacrifice, and the transgression of desolation, to give both the sanctuary and the host to be trodden under foot? And he said unto me, Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then the sanctuary will be cleansed. Daniel 8:9-14

Interpretation:

…Four kingdoms will stand up out of the nation, but not in his power. And in the latter time of their kingdom, when the transgressors are come to the full, a king of fierce countenance, and understanding dark sentences, will stand up. And his power shall be mighty, but not by his own power: and he shall destroy wonderfully, and shall prosper, and practise, and shall destroy the mighty and the holy people. And through his policy also he will cause craft to prosper in his hand; and he will magnify himself in his heart, and by peace he will destroy many: he will also stand up against the Prince of princes; but he will be broken without hand. Daniel 8:22-24

e. The abomination that makes desolation

They will pollute the sanctuary of strength and will take away the daily sacrifice, and they will place the abomination that makes desolate. By flatteries, he will corrupt those who do wickedly against the covenant. Daniel 11:31-32

And from the time that the daily sacrifice shall be taken away, and the abomination that makes desolate set up, there shall be 1,290 days. Blessed is he that waits, and comes to the 1,335 days. But go your way till the end be: for you will rest and stand in your lot at the end of the days. Daniel 12:11-13

f. Vile person

Daniel 11:21

g. The prince of the covenant

Daniel 11:22

(Highlights)

In his estate will stand up a vile person, whom they will not give the honor of the kingdom: but he will come in peaceably, and obtain the kingdom by flatteries. And with the arms of a flood they will be overflown from before him, and shall be broken; yea, also the prince of the covenant. And after the league made with him he will work deceitfully: for he will come up, and will become strong with a small people. He will enter peaceably even upon the fattest places of the province; and he shall do that which his fathers have not done, nor his fathers' fathers; he shall scatter among them the prey, and spoil, and riches: yea, and he shall forecast his devices against the strong holds, even for a time. Daniel 11:21-24

His heart will be against the holy covenant; Daniel 11:28

“They will pollute the sanctuary of strength, and shall take away the daily sacrifice, and they shall place the abomination that makes desolate. And he will corrupt by flatteries those who do wickedly against the covenant: but the people that do know their God will be strong, and do exploits. And those who understand among the people will instruct many: yet they will fall by the sword, and by flame, by captivity, and by spoil, many days. And the king shall do according to his will; and he shall exalt himself, and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak marvellous things against the God of gods, and shall prosper till the indignation be accomplished: for that that is determined shall be done. Daniel 11:30-33,36

He will magnify himself above all. Daniel 11:37

And yet he will come to his end, and none will help him. Daniel 11:45
