Summary: In the Bible we see where sin has shaped how we are today.

SMALL SINS, SECRET SINS, SILENT SINS

Sin has affected everyone and sin has entered into everyone that has lived on this earth except Jesus Christ, He is the only person that has walked upon the world and not committed a sin, Jesus was perfect, he was sinless and He became our perfect sacrifice for all of mankind.

In the Bible we see where sin has shaped how we are today. Sin has transformed this world into a downward spiral ever since the Garden of Eden.

Today I want to touch on the subject of sin, sometimes we admit to ourselves that they might be small sins, secret sin or even silent sins.

If you will turn with me to the very first book in the Bible

Genesis Chapter 3 verse 6-7

6- And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eye and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof and did eat and gave also unto her husband with her and he did eat.

7- And the eyes of them both were opened and they knew that they were naked and the sewed fig leaves together and made themselves aprons.

1 Here we have read such what seems like a small sin.

One little apple, one small piece of fruit, such a small thing, but Eve took a bite of this small fruit and then Adam took part in eating this small fruit.

Church, I think both Adam and Eve thought this wasn’t much here but God did tell us not to eat from this tree but one little fruit can’t be all that bad.

This small sin brought forth every evil, rotten, wicked thing that has happened up to this very second.

What was lost here, being perfect, with no sickness, no dying, and no killings we lost everything good because of this one small little sin!

No church there is no small sin in God’s eyes!

Look further in Genesis in chapter 19, we see where God was going to destroy the wicked cities of Sodom and Gomorrah.

God had told Lot to get his family out of the city because he was going to destroy these two wicked cities for all the sin they have and continue to commit.

But in verse 17, God told Lot to “Look not behind thee”, but also in verse 26 of that same chapter we read where Lot’s wife done such a simple, little thing.

A simple quick turn of the head, maybe just a peek, or a small glance and she was transformed into a pillar of salt.

Was this such a great sin? No, in our eyes this is a very small event but to God, this was no small sin.

God does not see things the way we see it, God in his love and mercy for us has let us go out into the world but when God has seen enough of the disobedience he will act swiftly and justly.

That’s just the way God works, I might not understand God at times but I know he is a just God.

Small sins, I do not think there is no such thing as a small sin.

2- Let’s look at the SECRET SINS for a moment, if you will let’s go back to Adam and Eve.

Right after Adam and Eve had taken part in eating the forbidden fruit, what did they do?

Chapter 3 verse 8

8- And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.

You see they tried to hide their sin from God. They were going to keep this sin a secret.

Look you may hid your sins from me, your family or friends but you are not going to hide or keep them secret from God.

Let‘s look at another example of trying to hide a sin from God. In the New Testament in the Book of Act, chapter 5 verses 1-10, we see where Ananias and Sapphire went before Peter and gave part of the money he said he was going to give to God.

(READ VERSES 1-10)

I’m sure Ananias was thinking, Peter will never know I am holding back some. It will just be a secret that Sapphire and myself will keep to ourselves.

In verse 4 and 5 of that chapter, God did what was best. In verse 4 – we see the words brought before Ananias were, “Thou hast lied unto men, but unto God”

Verse 5, the judgement from God came back quick, we read here that it says Ananias fell down and gave up the ghost.

Verse 10, just three hours later, she died to, she gave up the ghost and was buried next to her husband.

IN the book of Mark

Mark 4:22

For there is nothing hid, which shall not be manifested; neither was anything kept secret, but that it should come abroad.

There is no such thing as a small sin or a secret sin from God.

3- What about those SILENT SINS?

Let us look at properly most known Silent Sin in the Bible.

I believe Judas, one of the chosen disciples, he was keeping silent about betraying Jesus.

Judas thought what harm can they do to him, I will just turn him over to the Romans and they will put him in jail and everything will start getting back to normal.

I think, Judas had thought for some time on what he was going to do, the reason I say this is a twofold answer I guess.

1- Is in the book of Mark, Chapter 14:10, it says Judas went before the chief priest, now they did not go out and surprise Judas and beat him, drag him in and tell him they will beat him until he tells them where Jesus is, no………………. he went to them.

Judas was looking out for himself for it says in verse 11, “How he might conveniently betray him”

So we see here Judas was already wheeling and dealing with the Devil before he even went before the Romans.

2- Also in the Book of Mark Chapter 14 in verse 18, Jesus said “ Verily I say unto you, one of you which eateth with me shall betray me”

One thing is very clear, Jesus knew he was going to be betrayed, why? Because it was written before him that the Son of Man was going to be betrayed.

Judas thought that by sneaking around in silence no one would find out, there is no such thing as a silent sin from God.

This sin was going to happen, it was foretold, it had to happen.

The part with Judas was that he let Satan take the lead in his sin and when that happens the only thing that Satan will make sure of is as much destruction as possible.

Look, The Bible says Satan goes to and fro devouring and when he comes a knocking and we open that door, watch out!!! He will destroy you and you will find yourself in Hell with him.

Satan will attack the church, he will attack your work, and He will attack your home. Satan will attack anything he can attach himself too.

The only way to defeat Satan is through the power of almighty God, through the blood Jesus shed on the cross at Calvary.

Listen to me today!! I am not going to tell you everything is alright, I can tell you that there is a Redeemer that can make everything alright when you want it.

Church, there is no such thing as a small sin. There is no such thing as a secret sin and believe me there is no such thing as a silent sin!

You can run, you can hide and you may think you have fooled everyone but mark this down, believe what I am going to say if you only believe one thing today, and that is YOU WILL NOT HIDE YOUR SINS FROM GOD!!!!!!!

GOD KNOWS!!!! HE SEE’S WHAT YOU ARE DOING, He can read your mind, your thoughts, the very intent of the heart, God knows!!!! God Knows!!!!!

What you do on a Saturday night, then come to church on Sunday morning.

You may have what they call the best “poker face” in the world but one day God will call your hand and he knows what you’re holding! Believe me, he’s got the upper hand in the deal.

I does bother me seeing some people on Sunday’s act the way they do then starting on Monday they start acting like the devil until the next Sunday comes around.

IN CLOSING,

I ask you to search out your heart. Maybe the smallest of sins to you or somebody here, but to God it is a sin

What you do behind those closed doors, we will never know but God knows.

Maybe just someone in this church that has hurt you and you feel that coldness, go and tell them you love them, pray for them AND STAND BESIDE THEM.

Can you leave here today knowing everything, every sin has been laid out before God?

Even the greatest have sinned, Moses, David, Peter, Thomas. Don’t let Satan take another foothold in your life.

Don’t let him say to you, I will do it when I get home, I will lay it before God then.

Church, God is calling, can you come and sing the song, (JUST AS I AM),

Come as you are and allow God to have all you sins today. The small sins, the secret sins and those silent sins.

God knows they are there you know they are there, come down today and give them to God.

When you pray and give them to the Lord, I want you to leave those sins here at the altar, you leave them there, and you do not have to walk back with them anymore.

Jesus will cleanse you of all sins, just ask him to.
