Summary: WAITING UPON GOD

Psalm 62 WAITING UPON GOD

I. THE DEMAND - WAIT UPON GOD (62:1-4)

1 Truly my soul waiteth upon God: from him cometh my salvation.

Wait Earnestly (truely) Exclusively (upon God) Expectantly (from Him)

2. THE DEPENDENCE - WAIT CONFIDENTLY UPON GOD -

2 He only is my rock and my salvation; he is my defence; I shall not be greatly moved

A. He is our Salvation (62:1-2)

It's Source - 1 from him cometh my salvation

It's Sum - 2 He only is my rock and my salvation; It's Substance - 2 he is my defence; I shall not be greatly moved. B. Our Seclusion - 2 he is my defence; I shall not be greatly moved C. Our Solution :3-4

Among the Fallen - 3 How long will ye imagine mischief against a man ye shall be slain all of you:

Among the False - 4 They only consult to cast him down from his excellency:

they delight in lies: they bless with their mouth, but they curse inwardly. Selah. 3. THE DEDUCTION - WAIT COMPLETELY UPON GOD (62:5-7)

A. His our Only Relief - 5 My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him. B. He is our Only Rock - 6 He only is my rock and my salvation:

he is my defence; I shall not be moved.

C. He is our Only Refuge - 7 In God is my salvation and my glory:

the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God.

Ch Wesley. Jesus, Lover of my soul, let me to thy bosom fly,

While the nearer waters roll, while the tempest still is high;

Hide me, O my Savior hide, till the storm of life is past;

Safe into the haven guide, O receive my soul at last.

Other refuge have I none, hangs my helpless soul on thee;

Leave, ah! leave me not alone, still support and comfort me;

All my trust on thee is stayed, all my help from thee I bring;

Cover my defenseless head with the shadow of thy wing.

4. THE DETERMINATION - WAIT CONTINUALLY UPON GOD (8-12)

A. In Despair - 8 Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him:

God is a refuge for us. Selah.

B. In Danger - 9 Surely men of low degree are vanity, and men of high degree are a lie:

to be laid in the balance, they are altogether lighter than vanity. C. In Dividend - 10 Trust not in oppression, and become not vain in robbery:

if riches increase, set not your heart upon them.

D. In Doubt - 11 God hath spoken once; twice have I heard this;

that power belongeth unto God.

E. In Discouragement - 12 Also unto thee, O Lord, belongeth mercy:

F. In Delay - 12 for thou renderest to every man according to his work

1 Cors 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
