Summary: Text: Rev 22:17 And the Spirit and the bride say, Come.

Text: Rev 22:17 And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that

heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will,

let him take the water of life freely.

We attach great significance to the last words of men – but we

should give particular heed to the closing words of God’s Inspired

Word!

To God’s last Appeal.

It is as if the Holy Spirit said to John: “Before you seal the book,

write down one last appeal to the sinner to come to the Saviour”

In our text, we see a Seven-fold appeal, seven reasons why the sinner

should be reconciled to God:

I. FIRST, BECAUSE THE HOLY SPIRIT SAYS COME! “the Spirit and the

bride say, Come”

a. It is the Holy Spirit that seeks to bring a lost world to Jesus (Jn

16:7-14)

b. It is the Holy Spirit that imparts Spiritual life (Jn 3:3-8)

c. It is the Holy Spirit that gives Liberty from the bondage of Sin (Rom

8:2)

d. It is the Holy Spirit that gives Power to live the Christian life (Acts

1:8)

(To hate sin, to love others, to depend on the Father, to depend on the

Word, to depend on Prayer & to serve the Lord)

e. It is the Holy Spirit that produces Likeness(2 Cor 3:18)

For this reason, We should not grieve or quench the Holy Spirit –

He fills us with God’s urgent love for Souls – So we will Go!

He prepares the heart of the sinner to receive the Word so they can be

saved.

II. SECOND, BECAUSE THE CHURCH SAYS COME! “the Spirit and the bride

say, Come”

a. The “bride” is the Church.

b. The Church is also spoken of as Christ’s ambassadors.

c. The Church has been saying “come” for nearly 2000 years.

d. Jesus told the Church in Mark 16:15 to “Go ye into all the world,

and preach the gospel to every creature.

e. Today there are many thousands of Churches which meet for worship,

singing and education all for the purpose of sharing Christ’s love

for the lost. Why?

f. Because it is estimated that World wide, 46 million people go out

into eternity lost each year.

g. I am reminded of Psa 142:4 I looked on my right hand, and beheld, but

there was no man that would know me: refuge failed me; no man cared for my

soul. And Lam 1:12a Is it nothing to you, all ye that pass by?

h. The Church should remember that Jesus said in John 20:21b as my Father

hath sent me, even so send I you.

i. So right now the Bride says “come” – If you are here

and have never been spiritually “born again” – The

Church says come.

III. THE INDIVIDUAL CHRISTIAN SAYS COME “And let him that heareth

say, Come”

a. Perhaps as you hear this message you are thinking of someone, that you

should give an appeal for them to come.

b. This verse is God’s last appeal in the Bible, and we that hear

say to you that hear, maybe it is your last chance.

c. You may never hear a message like this again. If you have never come to

Jesus for Salvation, I appeal to you with all my heart, come today!

IV. IF YOU THIRSTY, YOU NEED TO COME TO CHRIST “And let him that is

athirst come”

a. If you are athirst for peace, love, security, for an actual walk with

God, for the guiding of the Holy Spirit, Come to Jesus today. Jesus said

in John 4:14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him

shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a

well of water springing up into everlasting life.

b. And the Bible says in Isa 55:1,2 Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye

to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come

, buy wine and milk without money and without price. Wherefore do ye spend

money for that which is not bread? and your labour for that which

satisfieth not? hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good,

and let your soul delight itself in fatness.

V. IF ARE JUST WILLING TO COME “And whosoever will”

God’s last appeal is so wide that it includes everyone- all people,

every race, every age, and in any condition.

We are made up of 3 parts:

1. Mind – Understanding

2. Feeling – Emotions

3. Will – Volition

A. You are not saved with the Mind (Because you are smart)

God did not say Hay Noy-eh’o (whosoever understandeth)

If He would have, we could set up classes in school to educate people

into the kingdom

B. You are not saved by your Emotions (Feelings rise and fall)

God did not say Hay Soom-path-eh’o (whosoever feeleth)

C. God did say Hay Thel’o (whosoever will)

Thel’o means to “determine”, “choose”,

“be willing”

We are saved in a great decision!

1. We determine to accept Christ or

2. we choose to accept Christ or

3. we decide to be willing to accept Christ

I like number 3, because the Bible says in John 1:13 Which were born, not

of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of

God. And John 3:6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that

which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

When the prodical son came to his senses he said in Luke 15:18 I will

arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned

against heaven, and before thee,

The difference between Heaven and Hell, Between being saved and lost is

those little words “I will”.

Lord you say repent – “I will”

Lord you say turn – “I will”

Lord you say trust – “I will”

Lord you say confess my sins – “I will”

Lord you say confess me before men – “I will”

Lord you say receive me – “I will”

Lord you say be baptised – “I will”

Lord you say live for me – “I will”

VI. THE WAY TO CHRIST IS SO SIMPLE “let him take the water of

life”

a. Nothing to earn

b. Nothing to prove

c. Salvation is a gift

d. Jesus paid for it with His life

e. The Father paid for it with His Son

f. He gives it to you

Even a child understands that! Why will you hesitate? If we were giving

free Luxury Automobiles here we would be stampeded. Understand God is

giving something greater!

VI. THERE IS NOTHING TO PAY “freely”- “let him take

the water of life freely”

a. All you have to do is receive the gift

b. The world tells you that you never get something for nothing

c. They are wrong, you got life for nothing, you got fed and clothed as a

child for nothing,

When did you pay for oxygen or sunshine or mothers love?

d. God will save you – He will take care of you.

INVITATION:

In the last words of Jesus Christ He gives his last appeal

He wants you to come to him and believe in Him

1. Do you need to be saved?

2. Do you need a closer walk?

3. Do you need forgiveness, peace, hope, joy?

4. Come to Jesus - Don’t come to me, or to this church, Come to

Jesus:

The Spirit pleads with you

The Church pleads with you

Individual Christians plead with you

Jesus Himself pleads with you

If you are athirst for the things of God, God’s love, for His Mercy,

for His forgiveness “then come”

If you are just willing then come. Say those words to Jesus “I

will”
