PROBLEMS WITHIN

Nehemiah 5

I. THE COMPLAINT OF THE POOR (1-5)

A. There was a shortage of food. (2)

B. There were those who mortgaged their property. (3)

C. There were those who borrowed money. (4)

D. Because of the money loaned, the rich Jews were

taking over the lands of the poor Jews, and some of

the poor Jews' children were being sold into slavery

because of the debts. (5)

II. THE CONFRONTATION OF THE OFFENDERS (6-11)

A. Nehemiah confronted those who were sinning against

their brethren.

1. He pointed out their sin in a great public

assembly. (6-10)

2. He demanded that they make things right (11)

III. THE CORRECTION OF THE PROBLEM (12-13)

A. Those who were doing wrong were convicted and promised

to fix the problem.

IV. THE CONDUCT OF NEHEMIAH (14-19)

A. Nehemiah practiced what he preached.

1. As governor, he did not require the traditional

payments.

2. He did not needlessly add to the financial burden

of the people, although he could have.

B. The reason he acted this way was because of his fear

for the Lord (Vs. 15).
