Nehemiah 7:1-72
GOD'S PEOPLE:
I. WERE ORGANIZED FOR SERVICE (1-64)
II. SOUGHT THE WILL OF GOD (65)
A. They depended on the Urim and Thummim.
B. We can hear directly from God through:
1. His Word
2. Prayer
3. Circumstances
4. The church
C. "He who belongs to God hears what God says.
The reason you do not hear is that you do not
belong to God." -- John 8:47
III. GAVE GENEROUSLY FOR GOD'S WORK (70-72)
A. The leaders gave first
B. Many gifts were other than "cash"
C. The gifts of the leaders encouraged others to give
D. When all the people gave, the amount was amazing!
E. Estimated value in today's dollars: $100 Million
F. "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth,
where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves
break in and steal. But store up for yourselves
treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not
destroy, and where thieves do not break in and
steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart
will be also." -- Matthew 6:19
