Summary: This sermon will be preached about John the Baptist and how he prepared the way for the Lord; we must now go out and preach the good news.

Scripture Reading-

Intro: John the Baptist, both family and follower of Jesus, but also the one that prepared the way for him to come.

I. The Writings

Anchor verse: Mark 1:2-3 It is written in Isaiah the prophet: "I will send my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way" --"a voice of one calling in the desert, `Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.' "

Isaiah the prophet spoke about John preparing the way for Jesus.

II. The Witness

Anchor verse: Mark 1:4 And so John came, baptizing in the desert region and preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.

John was a witness to not only the other people about Jesus, but also a witness to the very life of Jesus.

III. The Water

Anchor verse: Mark 1:5b they were baptized by him in the Jordan River.

John baptized with water because this was a sign of repentance.
