Vacation Bible School Family Night Message

TRUTH TRACKERS

JOHN 14:1-7

Introduction:

[Turn lights off]

1. Have you ever been lost?

2. It is a scary feeling to be lost isn’t it?

3. I want you to stand up. Now don’t move around because I know what would happen. You would all fall over one another because you cannot see what is around you.

[Turn lights on and seat audience]

4. The Bible tells us that Jesus was telling His disciples that He was going to be killed and one of those disciples, Peter, said He wanted to go with Jesus wherever He was going. Jesus told Peter that He could go, but not at that time. He would have to wait.

I. The Destination

Read John 14:1-4

A. What is this place Jesus is talking about? (Heaven)

B. When we die, and we will all die at some time, we either will go to heaven or hell. Who here wants to go to heaven? Raise your hand.

C. I want to go to heaven too. How do we get there? Let’s hear what the Bible says.

II. The Way

Read John 14:5-7

A. This tells us the way to heaven is through a person. Who is the person? (Jesus)

B. Jesus is also the truth. Some people may tell you that you can go to heaven by being nice or by doing good things, but the Bible says that the true way to God is through Jesus Christ.

C. Jesus is also life. When we die, that’s not it. We keep living forever either in heaven or hell. Jesus offers us life forever with Him.

III. The A, B, C’s

How do you let Jesus become the way, the truth, and the life for you? Let me tell you how using the letters a, b, and c.

Admit

Admit to God that you are a sinner. (Sin separated us from God. Sin is not doing what God wants you to do. We sin when we disobey God.)

Repent, turning away from your sin.

Believe

Believe that Jesus is God’s Son and accept God’s gift of forgiveness from sin. (God sent Jesus so you would not have to die for your sin. Jesus died on the cross, He was buried, and He rose from the dead.)

Confess

Confess your faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.

Conclusion:

1. If you are here tonight and you have never asked Jesus to be the Savior of your life, I want you to come up here when the music starts and let me introduce you to Jesus.
