Summary: A quick and methodical way to understand and preach the gospel message.

Preaching the Gospel

(The Romans Road)

Mark 16:15

15 And He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.

Matt 28:18-20

18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.

19 "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

20 "teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen.

 We are commissioned by Jesus to preach the gospel.

 To be effective ambassadors we must understand how to use the word to witness.

 Preaching the gospel doesn’t mean we are eloquent speakers.

 One of the most effective ways to use the word to explain the gospel is to use the ROMANS ROAD

Luke 15:7 I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.

The Romans Road:

Romans 3:10 - As it is written, "There is none righteous, no not one."

 “A” – Acknowledge that you are a sinner.

 Ps 14:1-3 The fool has said in his heart, "There is no God." They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none who does good.

2 The LORD looks down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there are any who understand, who seek God.

3 They have all turned aside, they have together become corrupt; there is none who does good, no, not one. (Psa 53:1-3)

 Isa 53:6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned, every one, to his own way; and the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.

 Micah 7:2 The faithful man has perished from the earth, and there is no one upright among men. They all lie in wait for blood; every man hunts his brother with a net.

 No Jew or Gentile

 We have the adamic nature of sin.

 Our natural state is a fallen state.

 We shouldn’t be upset at sinners for sinning.

Romans 3:23 - For all have sinned and come short of the Glory of God."

 All means all, God is no respecter of persons

 Though we see different degrees of evil in men, all are deserving of His wrath.

 A sinner must first acknowledge or accept their state.

 The original Greek gives various translations to this.

 Failed of attaining the glory of God:

 Have not been able to bring glory to God:

 Stand in need of the glory, that is, the mercy of God.

 The simple meaning seems to be this: that all have sinned and none can enjoy God’s glory but those who are holy.

 Every person deserves to go to Hell.

 Paul basically infers that searching for justification in works will be in vain.

Romans 5:8 - But God commendeth His love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."

 Commendeth means strengthened, approved, exhibited, or demonstrated (NKJ,NIV,NAS)

 God demonstrated such a love for His creation that He literally gave His only begotten son. John 3:16

 “God hath set this act of infinite mercy in the most conspicuous light, so as to recommend it to the notice and admiration of all.” – Adam Clarke

 While we were in our mess, God had mercy on us.

 In rare cases a man will die for another who he has great esteem for.

 Yet still some choose to reject Him.

Romans 5:12 - Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned.

 Sin entered into the world through Adam. Gen 3

 Adam chose to rebel against God.

 All men are born into this adamic nature.

 "The consequences of Christ’s obedience extend as far as the consequences of Adam’s disobedience. The consequences of Adam’s disobedience extend to all mankind; and therefore, so do the consequences of Christ’s obedience.” – Dr. Taylor

 “This is a grand summation of the whole state of our case, viewed as ruined on the one hand in Adam, and on the other as recovered in Christ.” (from Jamieson, Fausset, and Brown Commentary)

 Christ was the second Adam. 1 Cor 15:45

Romans 6:23 - For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."

 “B’ – believe in the Lord, Jesus Christ

 He is the true Son of God.

 This speaks of spiritual death and natural death.

 It is amazing how hard people work at going to Hell.

 Eternal life is a gift. We must receive it to possess it. This is the ONLY way to receive eternal life.

 John 14:6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

 It doesn’t say “The gift of God is eternal life through good works, our own righteousness, self realization, Buddha, Mohammed, The Dali Lama.”

Romans 8:38-39 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor heighth, nor depth, nor any other creature shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

 This is a most encouraging word.

 Paul speaks with great confidence it this statement at the end of Chapter 8.

 The permanency of the Christian church is full proof of his statements.

 The true follower of Christ can never be forsaken.

 And is church which is founded on the Rock, can never be shaken.

 There is nothing in existence that can separate us from God’s love.

 We really have no worries.

Romans 10:9-10 - That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved; for with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."

 “C” – confession (of our sin and His Lordship)

 It is so important to speak from our mouths what is in our hearts. (Mat15:18)

 Confess our belief and depend solely on Him for the justification of our sins.

 Our confession must be sincere.

 “the rubber meets the road”

 “made unto salvation” simply; “acknowledgement concerning rescue.”

 This is the extension of our belief or our faith.

Romans 10:13 - For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."

 There is no exclusion here.

 If we call upon Him – make a confession.

 They SHALL be saved.

 Faith is a confidence that God will do what He say He’ll do.

 This scripture gives great confidence.

Romans 10:17 - So then, faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God."

 Jesus is the Word.

 The word is living.

 The word is anointed.

 It will convict by the Holy Spirit.

 Because they have heard the word, they are accountable to what they have heard.

Romans 12:2 - And be not conformed to this world; but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable and perfect, will of God."

 We are now new creatures.

 We have a new spirit.

 The Holy Spirit now lives in us and we in Him.

 Our minds need to be continually renewed.

 We have the ability to find the acceptable, good and perfect will of the Father.

 That person is now on his/her true course.

Lead them through a simple prayer of salvation.

Use the ABC’s to help.

Don’t tell them they are saved, ask them what happened.

Encourage them to immediately get plugged into a church to begin discipling.
