THE WILL TO TRUST

(Psalms 56:3) What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee. (KJV)

(Psalms 56:11) In God have I put my trust: I will not be afraid what man can do unto me. (KJV)

I. HIS GENERAL COMPLAINT vv. 1,2,5,6

(Psalms 56:1-2) Be merciful unto me, O God: for man would swallow me up; he fighting daily oppresseth me. Mine enemies would daily swallow me up: for they be many that fight against me, O thou most High. (KJV)

(Psalms 56:5-6) Every day they wrest my words: all their thoughts are against me for evil. They gather themselves together, they hide themselves, they mark my steps, when they wait for my soul. (KJV)

A. HE COMPLAINS OF THE MALICE OF HIS ENEMIES.

1. He was being attacked.

a. They were watching his every move.

b. They were waiting for the right moment.

2. He admitted that he was afraid.

B. HE CRIES OUT FOR MERCY.

“Be merciful unto me, O God”

II. HIS GROWING COMMITMENT

(Psalms 56:11) In God have I put my trust: I will not be afraid what man can do unto me. (KJV)

A. HE IS CONFIDENT OF GOD’S POWER.

“In God have I put my trust”

B. HE COMMITTED TO GOD’S PROMISES.

“In God I will praise his word,”

III. HIS GREAT COMFORT

A. HE KNOWS HOW MINDFUL GOD IS.

(Psalms 56:8) Thou tellest my wanderings: put thou my tears into thy bottle: are they not in thy book? (KJV)

1. God knows the trouble I have faced.

2. God knows every tear that has fallen.

B. HE KNOWS HOW MERCIFUL GOD IS.

(Psalms 56:9) When I cry unto thee, then shall mine enemies turn back: this I know; for God is for me. (KJV)

1. God is going to protect me.

(Psalms 56:13) For thou hast delivered my soul from death: wilt not thou deliver my feet from falling, (KJV)

2. I am going to praise Him for it.

(Psalms 56:12) I will render praises unto thee. (KJV)

Conclusion:

Doubt sees the obstacles-Faith sees the way!

Doubt sees the darkest night-Faith sees the day!

Doubt dreads to take a step-Faith soars on high,

Doubt questions, "Who believes?"-Faith answers, "I!"
