A GOOD SOLDIER
Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also. Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier. (2 Timothy 2:1-4 KJV)
I. WHAT MAKES A GOOD SOLDIER?
A. A GOOD SOLDIER NEVER EXPECTS SPECIAL
TREATMENT.
1. He knows that being a soldier entails great sacrifice.
2. He knows that being a soldier entails personal suffering.
B. A GOOD SOLDIER KNOWS WHAT IT TAKES.
1. He knows that it takes true courage to be a good soldier.
. David, And David said to Saul, Let no man’s heart fail
because of him; thy servant will go and fight with this
Philistine. (1 Samuel 17:32 KJV)
2. He knows that it takes total commitment to be a good
soldier.
II. WHAT DOES HE HAVE TO GUARD AGAINST?
“No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of
this life.”
A. HE MUST GUARD AGAINST BEING DIVERTED
FROM HIS DUTY.
“1Ki 20:40 And as thy servant was busy here and there, he
was gone. And the king of Israel said unto him, So [shall]
thy judgment [be]; thyself hast decided [it].”
B. HE MUST GUARD AGAINST DESERTING HIS POST.
III. HOW DOES HE CONQUER?
A. NOT TRYING TO BE FAITHFUL…
. Should be faithful in the smallest things.
He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in
much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in
much. If therefore ye have not been faithful in the
unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the
true riches? And if ye have not been faithful in that which
is another man’s, who shall give you that which is your
own? (Luke 16:10-12 KJV)
B. BUT IN LOOKING TO THE FAITHFUL ONE.
“Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors
through him that loved us.” (Romans 8:37 KJV)
“But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through
our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Corinthians 15:57 KJV)
“Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to
triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his
knowledge by us in every place.” (2 Corinthians 2:14
KJV)
