WE SERVE A MIGHTY GOD

Zephaniah 3:17, "The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing.

There is an old chorus that we once sang in our worship services when I was growing up that went like this:

What a mighty God we serve

What a mighty God we serve

Angels bow before Him

Heaven and Earth adore Him

What a mighty God we serve

We sometimes forget just how mighty our God really is.

Exodus 15:3, "The LORD is a man of war: the LORD is his name."

Hebrews 12:29, "For our God is a consuming fire."

We are not serving a dead God who cowers in fear or refuses to answer. Our God fights for what is right and holy and just. He does not fear and He is not shaken by our circumstances and troubles. His battle plans are already completed and the victory is won before the battle begins.

What do we have to fear? Surely Satan goes around like a roaring lion, but He cannot destroy anything that God has under His protection.

I believe that this church, and each of us as individuals, who are saved and sanctified, and living for God cannot be defeated by the devil unless we throw up our hands in surrender. Let the battles come! Let the devil roar! Let the heathen rage!

My God is powerful and I will not fear for He is my shelter and my tower of defense!

When the storm is raging around us; when the waves tower over us; and when it seems that there is no more hope – run to Jesus! He is not shaken by those storms. He has the power to calm them and deliver you through them and even make you stronger because of them.

Exodus 15:11, "Who is like unto thee, O LORD, among the gods? Who is like thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders?"

There is no other power that can compare to the Mighty God that I serve. No other god can stand before Him! He defeated the Isis, Horeb and Saab of Egypt! He defeated the pharaohs, the Caesars, and every other man who dared exalt himself above God! My God defeated Baal, He defeated Buddha, Mohammed and every other god you can name. There is none who can stand before Him! What have we to fear? Why do we feed defeated? Why do we shrink from the battle? Why do we turn tail and run from the enemy? OUR GOD IS THE MIGHTY ONE OF ISRAEL! WE HAVE NOTHING TO FEAR!

Illustration:

There have been times when I’ve been lost, away from home, and panic struck my heart -- and yet alone I experienced the wonder of the comfort of God in his nearness.

There have been situations in my home and family that brought me to a point of worry that I don’t even have any words to begin to describe -- only to discover that the Mighty God was there and that it was okay. God spoke calmness into my heart.

I’ve laid on my bed, and hurt greatly for people in their terrible circumstances and somehow felt like I was responsible to do something to help -- yet knowing that their needs far exceeded any capacity or capability that was mine, then seeing and feeling the transformation from fear to trust in the ability of Almighty God to see them through when I could do nothing.

We say that we will fear no evil. But let me tell you that it’s often not like that. I forget that the Shepherd is there. I reach out and take the problems that I thought I gave away, and I pull them back, and I hold them close, and struggle and grope with them. I let my imagination run wild, and I can worry myself sick about the evils that endanger me and those I love.

What I need to do always is what we all need to do always: trust our Mighty God! Understand that its not some power of positive thinking; that its not some manipulative self-talk; that’s not some Yoga technique. I will fear no evil because God is with me!

Our Mighty God is here! He is really here! He keeps his promises -- he really does, in even the deepest and the darkest of valleys."

In Deuteronomy 32:39, God says, "See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god with me: I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal: neither is there any that can deliver out of my hand."

I will not fear death, for death cannot come without God’s permission! I will not fear pain for God is the “Great Physician”! I will not fear defeat! God is my Deliverer!

Deuteronomy 33:27, "The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms: and he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee; and shall say, Destroy them."

How mighty do YOU see God in your life?

Is your God someone who stands afar and just watches what happens to you without any concern?

Is your God sleeping and hard to awaken?

Is your God too concerned with matters of His own to be concerned with event the smallest problems in your life?

Is your God too weak to supply your every need; to heal even your head colds; to give you food, clothing, or to enable you to pay your bills?

If that’s your picture of God, no wonder we have so much fear!

I don’t know about you, but MY GOD IS MIGHTY enough to handle every situation that faces me! Not only that, but He is also mighty enough to turn it to my good!

My God has arms of strength that are everlasting. He will cast out from me those enemies of my soul and of my life that would attempt to destroy me!

He has given His angles charge over me with orders from God to destroy all who would come against me! WHAT A MIGHTY GOD WE SERVE!

1 Samuel 2:6-9, "The LORD killeth, and maketh alive: he bringeth down to the grave, and bringeth up. The LORD maketh poor, and maketh rich: he bringeth low, and lifteth up. He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth up the beggar from the dunghill, to set them among princes, and to make them inherit the throne of glory: for the pillars of the earth are the LORD’S, and he hath set the world upon them. He will keep the feet of his saints, and the wicked shall be silent in darkness; for by strength shall no man prevail."

The Mighty God that I serve has all things under His control!

He is the Giver and Taker of Life by His sovereign will and power.

He controls the wealth of Heaven and of Earth to accomplish those things for me that are necessary!

He reigns in the affairs of men to raise leaders who will do His will and brings down those who will not!

God lifts us up from our life of sin, stuck in the miry clay of despair – He lifts us up, washes off the filth of sin with His own blood that will never lose its power to cleanse. He gives us His undying love and compassion. He fills us with His mercy.

Then He bestows upon us all of the wondrous glories of Heaven and eternal life with Him! IT IS OUR MIGHTY GOD THAT DOES THESE THINGS FOR US BECAUSE WE CANNOT DO THEM FOR OURSELVES.

1 Chronicles 29:12-13, "Both riches and honor come of thee, and thou reignest over all; and in thine hand is power and might; and in thine hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all. Now therefore, our God, we thank thee, and praise thy glorious name."

Lift up your voices, lift up your hands, lift up your hearts in praise to our Mighty God right now! Oh God, we praise your mighty name. We thank your for your wonderful power! We thank you for watching over us! We thank you for victory, for salvation, for provision, for all of your great promises! WE PRAISE YOUR GLORIOUS NAME!

2 Corinthians 13:4, "For though he was crucified through weakness, yet he liveth by the power of God. For we also are weak in him, but we shall live with him by the power of God toward you."

The world may look up the Mighty God, the Lord Jesus Christ, that I serve and that I worship, and they may say that He is weak or even dead. The world cannot understand how that God could ever come to this earth and allow men to murder Him on the cross. \

They find it hard to grasp the idea of God becoming frail humanity, living in the fleshly body of a man, in all of the weaknesses that are inherent with flesh and bone, and yet be Mighty God all of the time!

Yes, our MIGHTY GOD, came to earth in the form of a man, died on the cross for our sin, and gave His own blood that we might be saved from our sin! BUT HE AROSE FROM THE DEAD BY HIS OWN GREAT POWER AND MAJESTY!

NOW THAT IS MY MIGHTY GOD! That’s the God that I trust in! That’s the God that I serve! He is a living God and able to help me in all of my weaknesses. This weak, frail body of flesh and bone will, one day, be transformed through the power of our Mighty God into an immortal body that will be perfect in all its ways!

2 Corinthians 9:8, "And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:"

This final verse I bring to your this morning from the pen of the Apostle Paul. It is the sum of the work that God has designed and completed for your life!

THE MIGHTY GOD THAT WE SERVE IS ABLE!

He is able to bring every good and perfect gift to you. He is able to meet your every need. He is able to give you life and that much more abundantly!

STAND WITH ME RIGHT NOW! LIFT YOUR HANDS AND PRAISE YOUR MIGHTY GOD!

HE IS YOUR GOD AND HE IS ON THE THRONE OF HEAVEN RIGHT NOW! GIVE HIM PRAISE!

GIVE HIM HONOR!

GIVE HIM GLORY!

WORSHIP HIM!

WORSHIP YOUR MIGHTY GOD!
