TEXT:

Hebrews 12: 1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, LET US LAY ASIDE EVERY WEIGHT AND SIN WHICH DOTH SO EASILY BESET US, AND LET SO RUN WITH PATIENCE THE RACE THAT IS SET BEFORE US...

Hebrews 12:12--16 Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled.

Let us ponder Laying aside weight to attain victory.

This is the 9th in series of Remove the weights, text, Heb. 12:1

I. Remove the weight: Introduction

II. REMOVE THE WEIGHT OF SIN.

III. Remove the weight of no evaluation.

IV. Remove the weight: Blame Game.

V. Remove the weight of GREED.

VI. Remove the weight of JEALOUSY.

VII. Remove the weight of Judgmentalism.

VIII. Remove the weight of LAZINESS.

IX. Remove the weight of Bitterness.

I am wearing a backpack with 40 pounds of rock,

the first rock was labeled SIN. This rock is labeled Laziness.

I have a friend remove the one rock from my backpack,

I have painted the word Laziness on the rock.

I have SIN the biggest rock, it is a little larger than three fist,

the rest are little bigger than soft ball size.

I note my load is getting lighter as I remove the weights.

Today the 8th rock is removed.

I wear the back pack for the whole service, the load sure gets heavy.

IX.REMOVE THE WEIGHT

OF THE BITTERNESS OF LIFE.

This is the 9th weight we need to remove, this is a series based on Heb. 12:1 Lay aside every weight.

I see many falling into the trap of bitterness.

Many refuse sin, but will yield to bitterness.

But know Bitterness will destroy just as sin will.

Bitterness is like a radio station transmitter,

bitterness will spread to anyone near the same frequency.

Never give self to transmit bitterness.

Have nothing to do with bitterness.

Life can have a way of turning JOY into BITTERNESS.

The same heat that melts butter, hardens an egg.

Walk on a rose and it’s fragrances goes forth,

walk on dirt and the path grows hard and resistant to life.

I take a carrot, a egg, and a tea bag, and ponder how each responds to heat?

A. DEFINE BITTERNESS ...

as a venom,

a poison to soul,

anger, wrath,

spirit of heaviness,

grief, vexation,

DISCONTENT

B. BITTERNESS AFFECTS THE BODY....

Stress, high blood pressure, ulcers,

loss of contentment--- displeasure,

anger, emotions out of control, cutting tongue,

TEMPER TANTRUMS ---outburst, irritation,

When life becomes a bother?

C. BITTERNESS EXPRESSES SELF AS A ROOT, IT OFTEN IS HIDDEN.

Hebrews 12:12--16

(read vs.12---16) Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled.

1. Root is under the surface, hard to kill something once it is rooted, a dandelion many have 10 feet deep roots.

2. Roots absorb and store.

3. Basis, underlying, fixed or implanted,

D. SPRINGS UP, QUICK START....

Heb. 12:15 springing up trouble you,

1. Dart, shoot, issue with speed and force

2. To blow up...

3.To push off

4. Spring, a starting point

E. BITTERNESS IS CONTAGIOUS....

Heb. 12:15.... and thereby many be defiled.

1. Communicable, pass from one to another, transmit ---like a radio signal.

2. Exciting similar emotions

F. BITTERNESS CAN RUN RAMPANT IN FAMILY.

Col. 3:13 Forbearing one another, forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, SO DO YOU. 19. HUSBANDS, LOVE YOU WIFE, AND BE NOT BITTER AGAINST THEM.

1. We build spite fences.

2. Homes become freezers and cold emotions.

G. IF BITTER GLORY NOT....

James 11---14 can’t have bitter and sweet?

H. BITTERNESS IS UNFORGIVENESS, GRUDGE.

Read Mat. 5:23

Mat. 6:14.

HOW MANY TIMES MUST I FORGIVE?

Jewish tradition 7 times.

Mat. 18:21 clearly changes tradition....

7x70=490 times a day.

3,430 a week,

13,720 a month.

Bitterness is unforgiveness and unforgiveness will bring spiritual death and many heartaches.

Free some other and forgive them, and you will free yourself.

Love never fails.

Bitterness is like trying to swim with a ton of bricks tied to you.

Cut the cord, Jesus will, if you do.

His servant,
