LEANING TOWER OF PISA
Every year thousands of tourists go to a city in Italy called Pisa to see the famous Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy. I went to see it some years ago but couldn’t get close because it was in a dangerous condition as it could topple over at any time. That’s why it’s a famous tourist attraction. The city of Pisa is spending lots of money in putting in new foundations and with hydraulic ramps, trying to make it more upright. All this trouble wouldn’t have been necessary if the original builders had been more careful to build it on solid rock.
That reminds me of a story that Jesus told called "The Wise and Foolish Builders" (Matt 7:24-27). He said it was a wise man that built his house on a rock. It was able to withstand the rains, floods and gales because of its solid foundation. He compared this with the foolish man who built his house on sand - and what happened? It fell with a great crash.
Jesus said that people who listened to His words and put them into practice were like that wise man. And what does He want us to do? It’s to put our trust in Him as our Saviour.
