“AND ENOCH WALKED WITH GOD”
“And Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him.” Genesis 5:24
I. "And Enoch walked with God".
One cannot walk with God without first having a true knowledge of who He is, what He demands and what He desires of us.
1. Who He is: The Almighty God who created heaven and earth and everything that is in them: "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth." "All things were made by Him…" Colossians 1:16.
2. What He demands: The holy God who demands respect, reverence and holiness: "Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God and Him only shalt thou serve." "For I am the Lord your God. Consecrate yourselves therefore, and be holy; for I am holy." Leviticus 11:44.
3. What He desires of us: He is a loving, compassionate God who desires fellowship with His children. "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing." Matthew 23:37.
II. "And he was not, for God took him."
No other mortal exited this life as did Enoch. Because of his close walk with God in a world full of sin, violence, hate and iniquity, he was spared physical death that is common to the entire human race. Body and soul not separated!
No doubt some change occurred equivalent to death inasmuch as "flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does corruption inherit incorruption." I Corinthians 15:50. But the changing that occurred was without fear, pain, suffering, degradation or sorrow.
III. Enoch, a type of the end-time Christian.
“By faith Enoch was take away so that he did not see death, and was not found, because God had taken him; for before he was taken he had this testimony, that he pleased God.” Hebrews 11:5
“For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.” I Thessalonians 4:16-17.
