The Confirmation of God’s Will

Judges 6:25-40

Intro: How do you know when God is calling you?

-There are too many mama called and papa called

preachers.

-How did Gideon know that God was calling him?

- Review Gideon’s call. Vs 11-16

1. The command. Vs 25-28

A. He heard God’s voice telling him what he was to do.

B. He had to get rid of the false gods. Vs 25

-Altar of Baal

-The grove, (the ashereh) (ashtereth pole)

C. Build and altar to the Lord

D.Offer a sacrifice.

E. Gideon got help. Vs 27

-They went at night

-Fear of his own father.

F. He obeyed the Lords command.

-It was clear to everyone

-He obeyed completely

2. The criticism. Vs 29

A. Who did this?

B. It didn’t take long to find out.

C. Criticism came from his friends.

-They had even helped him.

-They’re telling his father to kill him.

-No personal accountability here – it was all Gideon’s fault.

D. Father’s (Joash) response.

-Let Baal fend for himself.

-He called his son Jerubbaal – contender of baal.

3. The call to action. Vs 33

A. The enemy prepares. Vs 33

B. Gideon prepares. Vs 34

-The spirit of the Lord comes upon him.

-The Spirit of the Lord “clothed” him.

-We should never go to battle without the filling

of the Holy Spirit.

C. He blew the trumpet.

-It was a call to battle.

-He was sending out the signal for everyone to

gather – there’s going to be a fight.

-The people began to gather. Vs 35

4. The confirmation. Vs 36

A. The first test. Vs 37-38

B. The second test. Vs 39-40

The battle is set to begin… Judges 7:1

Conclusion:

We are in a spiritual battle….We must advance in the power of God.

-Get rid of the false Gods.

-Moses said “Who is on the Lord’s side”? make up

your mind.

-Your friends and even your family may come out

against you.

-Sound the battle cry….make it a certain sound.

1 Corinthians 14:8 For if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself to the battle?

-Confirm in your heart and mind that you are doing the

right thing. (not just convenient)
