1 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his

name’s sake.

4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no

evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou

anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

The first verse reads “THE LORD IS MY SHEPHERD I SHALL NOT WANT”.

I want to talk about this verse for just a short while this morning.

Bible scholars will tell you -bible is divided into 12 stages.

 When we look carefully at the 23rd Psalm, we are face to face with one of the sublime creations of all time. Could have come this morning.

 Biblical scholars tells us of 12 stages

 These words tell us of the Shepherd who gave His life for the sheep. They paint for us the picture of.

.

 The text starts with “The Lord is my shepherd I shall not want”

It means the same as the original hebrew version of:

Haw-yaw Raw-aw Car-share

The Lord is my shepherd I shall not want

Haw-yaw tells us of the person or being that David is talking about. It translates to Jehovah the jewish name for god – further translated into Lord as we read it today.

Raw-aw is the hebrew original translation of is my shepherd – tend to flock, to associate with (as a friend):— companion, keep company with, feed, use as a friend, make friendship with

--For just a moment, let’s think about the author of this psalm. This song was composed under the inspiration of God’s Spirit by David,

 David was a mature man of God; a shepherd boy to king 1000 years before Christ

 ;David had been a shepherd and he knew what it was like to know his sheep as individuals…..etc…….same for him.

 God doesn’t do anything without a specific reason or purpose. Lets look a little deeper at the original hebrew word “Raw aw” as translated into “is my Shepherd."

 Here He reveals Himself in His deepest nature as our Redeemer. David personal pronoun "my." He did not say the Lord is A shepherd. He didn’t say the Lord is The shepherd. David said, "(He) is MY shepherd….A men

 The Lord, is an infinite being, knowing no limits and possessing all power and wisdom. And yet he chooses to be my Shepherd.

 That’s a big deal. Can you imagine your supervisor …..

 Ancient world shepherd were low…etc

" The Lord is personally and intimately concerned about every aspect of his life. As David says later in Psalm 139, The Lord has searched us and knows us……goes on to say….the Lord knows when I get up, when I lie down, when I go out, and when I come home. David is saying that as our God rules and watches over the entire universe, He is still concerned about me. He promises to protect and provide for me."

Not just David’s shepherd or mine…but he can be your shepherd too if you are in his flock….HOW DO I – WHAT WILL IT DO FOR ME…..

Clensed in the still running warm and crimson blood of our savior Jesus Christ

Why? 2 Cor 5-17: Therefor is any man be in Christ he is a new creature, old…all

OK but what do I get? Jesus says, "I know my sheep, and my sheep know me." John 16 it say Tho ther will be trouble in the world in me there is peace…for I overcome the world.

You have to trust in him……some of us trust…etc….world lets you down..

Psalm 34: says, "The lions may grow weak and hungry, but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing."

No one gets to the father except by me - -

He’s the same god yesterday, today, and tommorrow…..I don’t know about you……song talks about slime slipping/passing –unchanging hand

John 10: 10-11

The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy.

I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep. He will give you rest……..for...
