Summary: This is a sermon that explains using the scriptures showing how Christians should vote.

How Christians Should Vote

Date: November 3, 2002 (PM)

Text: Psalms 33:8-22

Introduction:

The Bible teaches us our responsibilities to God; our fellowman; our church; and our government. I believe it is the duty of all Christians who are qualified, to vote. I believe that this Tuesday, we have a sacred responsibility. There is no power (government, ruler, king, etc.) except by God. Colossians 1:16,17 tells us, “For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.” A division between secular and sacred is No where found in the Bible. We often think about duty to God as sacred; He is the Almighty. And we think of duty to the Church as sacred; it is the Bride of Christ. But we need to think of our duty to our fellow man as sacred; he is created in the image of God. All of our voting decisions ought to be based on the Word of God. You ought not to vote for or against a candidate because they are a man or a woman, black or white, or Democrat or Republican. All of our voting ought to be guided by the Bible, God’s Holy Word. The Bible should be a lamp unto our feet and a light in the voting booth. Psalms 119:11 declares to us that, “Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.” Psalms 119:105 says that “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” They say if you don’t want people to get mad, don’t talk about politics or religion-now I am going to do both. I’m going to go this morning where angels fear to tread. I am going to tell you how you ought to vote. I am going to tell you how you ought to vote simply based on scripture. For you see, the problems we have in America today are not economic, nor cultural, nor social nor intellectual; but our problems today are spiritual. Every single problem in America is directly related to America’s spiritual condition. Psalms 33:12 plainly stated that “Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD.” Here is how we should vote based on scripture.

I. Vote Righteously

A. Proverbs 14:34 says “Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any

people”.

1. Vote Principle

a. Righteous= “what is right”

b. How?-Follow the 10 Commandments

B. Exodus 20:13 “Thou shalt not kill.”

1. 35 million babies have been killed.

a. That is more than all the wars of human history.

b. Abortion Is murder

2. Any candidate who promised to continue the slaughter ought to be rejected

even if they support subsistence.

C. Allow God to lead you in your voting selection.

1. Psalms 23:3 tells us “he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s

sake.”

II. Vote Morally

A. Homosexuals, lesbians, queers, fags-this is a moral issue.

1. They are not born that way. If that were the case God would have created Adam

and Steve instead of Adam and Eve.

a. Genesis 1:26-28 tells us “And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. 27So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. 28And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

b. Genesis 2:20-24 also says “ 20And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.

21And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; 22And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. 23And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. 24Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.”

2. It is a choice.

a. Romans 1:19-28 clearly states these words: “19Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath showed it unto them. 20For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: 21Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, 23And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. 24Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: 25Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. 26For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: 27And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet. 28And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient.”

Note: anyone running for a political office who supports giving homosexuals equal rights and says that it homosexuality is ok and should be accepted must be not be voted for by Christians.

B. Adultery-It is not an affair, or a fling, or shacking up, or shacking up, or just living

together, or simply having a good time, or an indiscretion: It is Sin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1. God says, “Thou shalt not commit adultery!” And we as believers must not ever

support a candidate or individual that does.

III. Vote Family

A. Exodus 20:12 plainly tells us to “12Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.”

1. Don’t vote for the TV and media model of a family.

a. Homosexuals and lesbians are not a family.

b. Single and pregnant is not the right choice.

c. Shacking up and living together is not a family.

2. Don’t vote for anything that undermines the family.

a. The family is the building block of society.

b. God made a man and a woman and joined them together and the fruit of

marriage is children.

c. Sex education as it is frequently taught today in school undermines the family.

d. Telling kids that their father and mother do not know what is best undermines

the family.

e. Those who run down marriage, the home and parents raising a family within

the sacred bonds of holy matrimony undermine the family.

B. Vote according to the Bible.

1. Hebrews 13:4 clearly says “4Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.”

Conclusion:

Vote righteously. Vote morally. Vote family. Don’t vote for what you can get out of it. Vote for what you know is scripturally correct. Pray before you vote. Pray as you vote. Pray after you vote. Pray! Pray! Pray! Ask God for wisdom, direction, knowledge, understanding, and then vote as God directs your heart. If you demand to have your own way and ignore God’s Word, he just might give it to you. In I Samuel the people got tired of following God and demanded to have a king like the rest of the world, and God gave them what they wanted. They would have been much better off to just follow God. The Bible tells us in I Corinthians 15:33 “33Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.” In other words don’t be misled, bad company corrupts good character. Don’t vote for someone because they support an appealing social or economic program if they stand for something not scriptural.
