Summary: An in-depth look at being made in God’s image.

Who’s Your Daddy Series

You Look Like Your Daddy

I. Who’s Your Daddy?

Romans 8:15-17 “For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, ‘Abba, Father.’ The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs- heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.”

1 John 3:1 “Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God!”

II. You Look Like Your Daddy

Your genes determine how you look. Each of us receives traits-in the form of genes- from our parents. We get genetic material from both of our parents-that’s why you look like both your mommy and your Daddy.

Genesis 1:26 “Then God said, ‘Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.’”

When man was created, he had the genetic material of God. Therefore, he could be called a little God. In fact, the Scripture says just that!

Psalm 8:5 “For You have made him a little lower than the angels [Hebrew –Elohim -God] and You have crowned him with glory and honor.”

We were made a little lower than God. God made us in His class, like Him, so that He could fellowship with us. Man and Man’s Best Friend (DOG) can have limited fellowship, but man and man can have much closer fellowship. Therefore, God and little God can have a much closer relationship than God and angels.

Not only do you look like your Daddy, but you should act like your Daddy, too.

III. You Act Like Your Daddy

Ephesians 5:1 “Therefore be imitators of God as dear Children.”

Story about Kids wearing their Daddy’s clothes and shoes.

1 Peter 1:15,16 “But as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, because it is written, ‘Be holy, for I am holy.’” Essentially, you can put any characteristic of God in there and fill in the blanks- because I am holy, you should be holy. Because I am loving, you should be loving. Because I am compassionate, you should be compassionate. Because I am bold, you should be bold. Because I am powerful, you should be powerful. Because I call those things that are not as though they are, you should call those things that are not as though they are.

Romans 4:17 “God- who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did.”

Not only do you look like your Daddy and act like your Daddy, but you should talk like your Daddy, too.

IV. You Talk Like Your Daddy

Genesis 1:2-3 “The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. Then God said, ‘Let there be light’; and there was light.”

Mark 4:35-39 “On the same day, when evening had come, He said to them, ‘Let us cross over to the other side.’ Now when they had left the multitude, they took Him along in the boat as He was. And other little boats were also with Him. And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling. But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, ‘Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?’ Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, ‘Peace, be still!’”

God calls it like He wants it. If it’s dark and He wants light, He says, “Light- BE.”

If it’s raining and He wants peace, He says, “Peace – BE.” In both of these cases, He doesn’t call those things that are as though they are not. There’s a huge difference. If it’s dark and God says, “It’s not dark,” He would be lying. If it’s raining and God says, “It’s not raining,” He would be lying. If I sent you outside to check on the weather, and I hear the thunder, and see the lightning, and you come back in, and you’re soaking wet, and you say, “It’s not raining,” you would be lying, and you would be an idiot. But that’s not how God talks, He calls it like He wants it. In every instance of healing, casting out devils, and miracles, you never see Jesus lying. If a man has a demon, he says, “Come out, demon,” not “There is no demon in there” and waves his hand like he’s using the force or something. NO!

So, if you’ve got bills, don’t say, “I don’t have any bills in Jesus’ name.” NO, call your bills paid! Or, since most of ya’ll don’t have bills, if you’ve got a headache, don’t say, “I don’t have a headache in Jesus’ name.” NO, call your head healed! That’s how your Daddy talks, that’s how you should talk!

Not only do you look like your Daddy and act like your Daddy, and talk like your Daddy, but you should think like your Daddy, too.

V. You Think Like Your Daddy

Have God-Thoughts and God-Ideas everyday.

Proverbs 23:7 “For as a man thinks in his heart, so is he.” You’ve heard it said, “You are what you eat.” Well, not so, you are what you think.

Example- David Koresh thinks he’s Jesus.

So, if you think of yourself like your Daddy thinks of you, then you will become what you think you are.

What does God think of me?!

He thinks you are loved. He thinks you are blessed with every spiritual blessing. He thinks all your needs are supplied. He thinks you are prosperous. He thinks you are redeemed from the curse of the law. He thinks you are more than a conqueror. He thinks you are righteous. He thinks of you like He thinks of Jesus, like you are In Christ.

How do we know what God thinks? He says what He thinks.

Scripture:

I am loved. - John 3:16

I am blessed. – Ephesians 1:3 “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ.”

My needs are supplied. – Phil. 4:19 “And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.”

I am prosperous. – 3 John 2 “Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.”

Psalm 35:27b “And let them say continually, ‘Let the Lord be magnified, who has pleasure in the prosperity of His servant.’”

I am redeemed from the curse of the law- Galatians 3:13 “Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us.”

Deuteronomy 28:15 “But it shall come to pass, if you do not obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe carefully all His commandments and His statutes which I command you today, that all these curses will come upon you and overtake you.” Thank God that I am redeemed and do not have to worry about the curses of defeat, sickness, and poverty among all the others listed in Deuteronomy 28.

I am more than a conqueror. Romans 8:37 “Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.”

I am righteous. I am in Christ – 1 Corinthians 1:30 “But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God-and righteousness and sanctification and redemption.”

So, you say what you think. Say this: I am loved. I am blessed. My needs are supplied. I am prosperous. I am redeemed from the curse of the law. I am righteous. I am in Christ.

Not only do you look like your Daddy, act like your Daddy, talk like your Daddy, and think like your Daddy, but you ARE like your Daddy.

VI. You Have Your Daddy’s Nature

2 Peter 1:4 “By which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.”

Austin Powers clip of Mini Me.

You ARE Mini God, you are a clone of him. Just like a clone is not as good as the original, you are not as good as your Daddy, however, you do have his exact nature when you are born again, or cloned into the kingdom.

It is now your nature to do good, to not sin, to love people, to give. You have the nature of God.

Ephesians 2:10 “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so that we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.”

John 15:5 “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.” The same power that flows through the vine flows through the branches. The branches have the same fruit-producing nature as the vine.

When a child imitates his Daddy, He tries to be like Him in every way. In what he does, in what he says, and in what he thinks.

You are a little God in every way! Act like Him. Talk like Him. Think like Him. Put on His nature, and do what you could not do without Him. Let’s pray.
