FAITH

By-Evangelist Gary Huckaby D.D.

Hebrews 11:1-3. (Our Text)

* Faith is believing something, acting as if it is already done, and it will be so done as you have believed." (verse 1).

Dead Faith.

James 2:14-20,

What doeth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him? If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, And one of you say unto them, Depart in Peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? Even so faith, if it hath not works IS DEAD, being alone. Yea a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works; shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well; the devils also believe, and tremble. But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works IS DEAD.

-Dead faith says I believe, but I won’t act as if it will happen.

-I believe, but I’m not going to do anything to bring my faith to reality, both to myself, nor to others.

*Faith without WORKS is DEAD.

Do you have this Faith? Dead Faith? Sure you believe, but your not working to prove it. Paul said, Acts 9:6, "Lord, what wilt thou have me to DO?" I am not talking about working to obtain salvation. I am talking about working from salvation. What have you done for the Lord since you were saved? For we are not saved by works, but by Grace. However after we have received Christ as our Savior we then go to work to show others our salvation in Christ Jesus.

Ephesians 2:8-9; For by Grace are ye saved through Faith ; and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God; not of Works, lest any man should boast. Romans 4:1-4, What shall we say then that Abraham our father, as pertaining to the flesh, hath found? For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God, For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness. Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of Grace, but of debt.

2. VAIN FAITH

1 Corinthians 15:12-19,

Now if Christ be preached that he rose from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead? But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen; And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your FAITH is also VAIN. Yea, and we are found false witnesses of God; because we have testified of God, that he raised up Christ; whom he raised not up, if so be that the dead rise not.For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised; And if Christ be not raised, your FAITH is VAIN; ye are yet in your sins. Then they which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished. If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.

-Vain Faith says, I believe in a Christ, but not someone who was raised from the dead. I don’t believe a person can be raised from the dead anyway.

-This is a person who is an unbeliever, lost and on the way to the lake of fire, doomed forever, separated from the resurrected Christ whom they chose not to believe in. Vain Faith is Faith that is always in VAIN.

- This word VAIN is also used in one of the ten commandments." Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in VAIN;" Exodus 20:7.

-Vain Faith is lost faith, don’t be caught with it for eternity’s sake, and your sake!

3. LITTLE FAITH

Matthew 6:25-34

Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body more that raiment? Behold the fowls of the air; for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not neither do they spin; And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field which today is , and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of LITTLE FAITH? Therefore take no thought saying, What shall we eat? or, what shall we drink? or where-withal shall we be clothed? [for after all these things do the Gentiles seek:] for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all those things. But seek ye first the Kingdom of God, and his righteousness: and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow; for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself, Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

AGAIN

In Matthew 8: 23-27.

And when he was entered into a ship, his disciples followed him, and behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves; but he was asleep. And his disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying , Lord, save us; we perish. And he said unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of LITTLE FAITH? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm. But the men marveled, saying. What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him!

Then Again

When Jesus meets Peter while walking on the water notice his words to Peter as Peter comes to meet him, Peter begins to look at the waves and take his eyes off of the Lord, sinking he cries out Lord save me![ verse 30.]

Next; please notice the next verse,

Matthew 14: 31, And immediately, Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of LITTLE FAITH, wherefore didst thou doubt? He began to sink because of LITTLE FAITH. Not enough faith to keep him afloat atop the water, as our Lord was.

Again, in the book of Matthew, Jesus uses the statement, "little faith’.

Matthew 16:8, "Oh ye of little faith, why reason ye among yourselves, because ye have brought no bread?"

Oh how many believers in Christ only have "little faith."

4. Great Faith

Matthew 15:21-28, "Then Jesus went thence, and departed into the coasts of Tyre and Sidon. And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou Son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil. But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us. But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel. Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me. But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children’s bread, and to cast it to dogs. And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table. Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour."

Again in Luke’s Gospel we are told; Luke 7:9, "When Jesus heard these things, he marvelled at him, and turned him about, and said unto the people that followed him, I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel."

The phrase Jesus used for this centurion was "Great Faith." Great Faith believes that God can do all, Great Faith trust’s totally in God. Great Faith asks for something and then goes on as if it were already done. For the centurion, it was done this day.

5. Victorious Faith

1 John 5:4,

For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world ; and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.

-Verse five goes on to say; Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God? Victorious Faith is overcoming faith. Faith that has overcome the world, If you have this faith then we are children of the Living God. Victorious Faith believes that Jesus is the Son of God. Do you believe this? Are you a child of God?

If you died today, do you know that you are going to heaven? If your answer to this question is not an absolute, Yes I know I have Eternal Life, You should listen closely to this , You can Know! The Word of God says you can.

1 John 5:13-"These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may KNOW that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God."

How you can Know.

First, you must realize that you are a sinner.

Romans 3:23,-"For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God."

Second, realize that you are going to die because you have sinned.

Romans 6:23,-"For the wages of sin is DEATH, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." Then you should also know that if you die in your sins you will go to Hell. Revelation 20:15,- And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire."

Third, Confess Christ.

Romans 10:9,- That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead; thou shalt be saved.

Now if there are any of you who do not have this Know so eternal life, please pray this prayer with me today. Lord Jesus I accept eternal life from you. I repent of my sins and claim you as my Lord and Savior. I believe you died on the cross and rose from the dead to save me. In Jesus Name I ask you! Amen.

Did you pray that prayer? Please do so for all of eternity depends upon, your responsibility to do so!

If you have asked the Lord Jesus to come into your heart as Savior, let us rejoice with you and pray for you.
