Summary: The words of our mouth can set the course of our life

Proverbs 18:4,6,20,21.

Verse 4. The words of a man’s mouth are as deep waters, and the well spring of wisdom as a flowing brook.

Verse 6. A fool’s lips enter into contention, and his mouth calleth for strokes.

Verse 20. A man’s belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled.

Verse 21. Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

The Bible has an awful lot to say about our words. Every word we speak is a container that is filled with something.

Our words can be filled with love, joy, happiness and blessing or they can be filled with sarcasm, unbelief, all kinds of negativity, and even hate.

Words can curse and words can bless. Words can encourage and bring life. Words can discourage and bring death.

The words that you hear linger with you.

Biting, stinging, hurtful words we speak to our wife, husband, or children as they leave the house in the morning can rob them all through the day.

Loving and tender words of encouragement can linger too, and keep them encouraged all through the day and bring them to victory.

The same thing is true spiritually.

Words, spoken words, written words, even words set to music are more powerful than we may realize. And what you hear will linger and creep into your spirit.

There are songs in the hymn books we shouldn’t sing.

If you are surrounding yourself with words of doubt, fear, defeat, and failure, you’re believing will start moving in that direction. So will your life spiritually and carnally.

Romans 10:17 says, Faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.

My favorite thing about that scripture is that it says, Faith comes.

If I will keep hearing what God’s Word says, if I will keep reading what God’s Word says, faith is promised: Faith comes.

Words; what we say and what we hear.

Turn with me in your Bible to Genesis chapter 3.

Listen to me. Satan didn’t use some magic spell. He didn’t tie Eve to a tree and force her to eat of that tree.

Man fell because of words.

Satan didn’t come to Eve and deny the existence of God, but implied that God was holding some good thing back from them.

He didn’t deny what God had created, but began to question Eve about what God had said.

Do you know what God has said about your situation, or what someone else told you he said?

Satan didn’t deny God’s power. Many people today don’t deny God’s power.

Oh, yes, God is Almighty! Oh, yes, God can cure disease with just a word, if he will.

IF HE WILL. Friend he already did!

You see Satan didn’t cause Eve to question God’s power, but his goodness; to doubt his integrity.

Listen, Satan knew God’s Word was true, but when man listened to Satan’s words, man became the unbeliever. He lost confidence in God’s Word and believed a lie of the devil. Adam dropped from being spiritually minded to being carnally minded. And guess who came on the scene? Death.

We have to many born again, Holy Ghost filled people listening to what ungodly people have to say about other Christians, about healing, and about finances.

Psalms 1 says, Blessed is the man who walketh not in the council of the ungodly.

The world your ear, like Satan had Eve’s ear. The world wants you to listen to the voice of reason.

Facts are not necessarily the truth.

Adam lost what he had because Eve listened to Satan’s words and Adam agreed to the compromise.

Satan can only defeat us by stealing God’s Word from us, and causing us to become doubtful of what God has promised.

Read the parable of the sower.

God’s Word is a living being; active and powerful. God and his Word are one. To reject God’s Word is to reject him.

The question I want each of us to ask ourselves today is:

1. What are we speaking ?

Are we speaking our words from a well-spring of wisdom; the Bible?

Are we speaking words of contention that bring destruction and a snare

to our soul?

2. What are we giving our ears to?

The Bible says if we give our ears to God’s Word faith cometh. I can tell you when faith cometh, victory cometh.

If you listen to the world doubt cometh, and when doubt cometh defeat cometh.

Satan at no time took away Eve’s power of choice and he hasn’t taken away ours. We can choose to come to church and hear of the Lord and be a help and speak words of encouragement to our brothers and sisters. Or we can choose to listen to the world and give the things of the world presidence over the things of God and the lost who are watching us.

We cannot choose if we live by words or not, but we can choose what words we will live by.

Jesus said, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
