THE TORMENT OF FEAR! FEAR BREEDS FAILURE!

The little boy was having some problems, he decided to pray. After a little prayer little boy hears a knock at the door.
He opens the door and asks, --- Are you the one from God?
1 John 4:18 There is no fear in love, but perfect love casteth out fear: BECAUSE FEAR HATH TORMENT.
He that feareth is not made perfect in love.
1. WHY DO DOGS BARK AND GROWL AT PEOPLE??
A.Dogs bark for various reasons, but one reason is to cause fear in the one that is listening.
I have often heard a dog can sense fear in individuals and when they sense fear, the dog will become more aggressive.
I am told many dogs that bite, wait until they catch the person as they turn their head away, and then they bite.
Dogs bark to breed fear. Our enemy is constantly using fear to breed a lack of faith and trust in believers.
B. If the moon listened to every barking dog, would it keep on shining?
2. FEAR CAN DESTROY, It’s up to you......
11 Tim. 1:6-7 Wherefore I put thee in remembrance, that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the
putting on of my hands. 7: For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love,
and of a sound mind.
3. WHAT DETERMINES VALUE?
11 Tim. 2:20-21 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of
earth; and some to honor, and some to dishounour.
21: If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honor, sanctified, and meet for the
master’s use, and prepared unto every good work.
4.THE MAN OF GOD WAS DOING THE WORK OF GOD, HE HAD THE ANSWER, BUT FEAR BECAME THE REASON INSTEAD OF FAITH!
A.There was a great need. People were hungry, and they would faint before there would be a solution.
Jesus presented the problem to His elite, there has to be a solution, else Jesus would have handled the need by Himself.
Jesus wanted to teach His men, the importance of the spoken word declared by faith alone, not how you feel or what you see.
B. Philip had the answer, FEAR HINDERED THE STEP OF FAITH.
C.John 6:6 Jesus knew the answer, Jesus just wanted to prove the level of faith of His followers.
WHAT ARE THEY AMONG SO MANY? What are they among so many? Do you ask yourself and kill the solution?
John 6:9 There is a lad here, which hath 5 Barley loaves, and 2 small fishes: BUT WHAT ARE THEY AMONG SO MANY??
5.FEAR CAN KILL OR IMPEDE THE WORK OF GOD!
Fear can take many forms. Fear can hide and disguise itself so it is not easily recognized.
A. Fear of appearance.
B. Fear of other’s opinions
C. Fear of tomorrow
D. Fear of people - Elijah & Jezabel
E. Fear to trust the Lord completely
F. Fear of FAILURE
6. I CAN HEAR ALL THE NEGATIVE, FEAR TAKES DEEPER ROOTS.
A.There was this farmer that heard the frogs croaking all night.
The noise of the croaking frogs got where it bothered the man.
One Friday night at the local restaurant the farmer over heard the owner say he was having trouble getting FROG LEGS.
The farmer discussed with his sons, and they decided they could help the restaurant and make a lot of money.
They heard all the noise of all those thousands of dumb frogs every night.
So the farmer made a contract for 500 frog legs a week to be delivered on Friday morning.
B.The first Friday the farmer goes into town with 4 legs -- that’s all that was there.
He could find only two frogs in his pond, just two.
But those two were really noisy, just TWO made a lot of noise.
Sometimes in life we give much credit and ground to a few noisy loud mouths.
7. OF COURSE YOU WILL FAIL! THE ONLY ONES THAT NEVER FAIL ARE THE ONES
THAT NEVER TRY! AND BY DEFINITION THEY REALLY FAIL.
Prov. 14:4 Where no oxen are, the crib is clean: but much increase is by the strength of the ox.
8. JAMES DEFINES FOUR KINDS OF PEOPLE:
A) Those that listen and never do: the forgetful hearer.
B) Those that will never do, and might I add those that will never do --- talk about those that do.
C) Then there is the doer, he does, but he will not listen, zeal without wisdom.
D) Then there is the goal --- the listening doer. Here is wisdom in balance.
9.YOU CAN FAIL AND NOT BE A FAILURE.
A. GOD GIVE US PEOPLE THAT WILL TRY AND TRY AGAIN.
B. A SIX WORD LESSON? A FAMOUS SPEECH:
Sir Winston Churchill speaks at Oxford the University Commencement.
As the great statesman addresses the graduates, he steps to the podium, leans on his elbows, looks at the
student body, and says:
NEVER GIVE UP! --- the crowd raises to their feet and applauds.
Mr. Churchill pauses, looks around the crowd, and says:
NEVER GIVE UP --- he gets another STANDING OVATION
The great leader looks at the crowd and returns to his seat.
This man had known one of the worse wars of history, and his words were NEVER GIVE UP!
10. SO NEGATIVE --- THE WORLD IS PESSIMISTIC. -
We say go to the red light, what about all the times the light is green?
We can debate if the glass is 1/2 empty or is it 1/2 full?
11. WE ARE LOSERS BEFORE WE STEP ON THE PLAYING FIELD.
WHIPPED SPIRITS? WE CAN’T, YOU KNOW WE CAN’T.
A. Many are whipped before they start. We can cast a defeated vision.
Numbers 13:33 And there we saw the giants, and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, ---
AND WE WERE IN THEIR SIGHT.
B. This vision casting is reinforced by negative words and negative feelings.
Numbers 14:1 And all the congregation lifted up their voice, and cried; and the people wept that night.
C. This negative vision casting becomes a cannibalistic vision.
Numbers 14:2 And the all the children of Israel MURMURED against Moses and against Aaron.
D. So Numbers 13 - we can’t go - there are too many giants - and we have grasshoppers’ spirits became a
prophetic word of doom.
12. WE ARE NOT ABLE ---We are not able - LET US HAVE AN ANXIETY ATTACK
A. MANY KNOW WE LIVE WAY OUT IN THE COUNTRY.
We had 100 Rhode Island Red chickens, the chickens laid brown eggs. We sold the eggs to the Japanese people
from town.
Understand Linda, my wife hates any kind of a bird. Too much Alfred Hitchcock when she was a girl, remember
the horror show THE BIRDS.
I was gone one day so Linda decided to feed the chickens. We let the chickens out of the morning and they ate bugs
and stuff.
As I fed the chickens they would come and walk with me to the barn.
So the chickens came to meet Linda, the rooster in front.
Linda started running as fast as she could, the chickens thought this was a game so they started running after her.
The more she ran, the more they ran.
I pulled into the drive and saw this woman running all around and 100 chickens chasing her.
I yelled out the window, DROP THE BUCKET, DROP THE BUCKET.
Linda dropped the bucket, the chickens started eating.
B. SEE THE CHICKENS WERE NOT CHASING LINDA, THEY WERE HUNGRY AND WANTED FOOD.
LINDA’S EXTREME FEAR OF BIRDS, FEAR HAD HER RUNNING FROM WHAT SHE FEARED.
Have you ever heard of any one being killed by a chicken? NAW!
All this fear induced by a horror movie.
13. BUT FEAR CAN CAUSE YOU MUCH PAIN AND GET YOU TO HARM YOURSELF!
A. Many of us choose a path that leads us TO BE TROUBLED, Troubled about many things that do not matter.
Those that choose a path of worry, fear, and trouble --- then we talk about those that TRUST JESUS!
B. Luke 10:41 And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things.
42: But one thing is needful; and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.
14. IS THIS MAN A FAILURE? LOOK AT ALL HIS FAILURES?
Can you fail if you keep on trying???
A. At 14 dropped out of school (HE HATED IT)
B. Worked on farm (HE HATED IT)
C. At 16 joined army (lied about his age) (HE HATED IT)
D. Got a job as a Blacksmith & quit (to hard and hot) (HE HATED IT)
E. 18 got girl pregnant, married. (THEY HATED IT)
F. Got fired from his job. (HE HATED IT)
G. Wife gave all furniture away - she went home to her Mom. (HE HATED IT)
H. Job with railroad, Quit. Hard manual labor. (HE HATED IT)
I. Tried college, quit. (HE HATED IT)
J. Salesman - as insurance agent, tires salesman, gas station attendant, FAILED (HE HATED IT)
At 65, HE STARTED DRAWING $105.00 MONTH SOCIAL SECURITY.
Most would have admitted they had failed and quit.
K. Not this man, he started mixing together spices and cooking chicken.
THIS MAN THAT SEEMED TO HATE EVERYTHING, STARTS HIS OWN BUSINESS IN CORBIN, KENTUCKY.
YOU KNOW HIM AS A GREAT SUCCESS.

WAS HE A FAILURE? NAW!
15. FEAR NEVER STAYS THE SAME, FEAR WILL GROW AND DOMINATE LIFE.
A. Fear of failure grows. LIFE HAS A WAY OF PUTTING PEOPLE DOWN. Put down, PUT DOWN, STAY DOWN?
Almost every time you hear Jesus talking to others, He speaks clearly. Jesus is telling someone else not to be
afraid.
B. To the woman with an issue of blood, "Fear not, thy faith hath made thee whole."
C. To blind Bartimaeus, "Fear not, Receive thy sight."
D. To Jairus whose daughter had just died, "Fear not, Only believe."
E. To the widow of Nain whose son lay a corpse, "Fear not, I am the resurrection and the Life."
F. To His disciples on the stormy sea, "Fear not, Where is thy faith?"
G. To the father of a lunatic boy in the midst of a demoniac seizure, "Fear not, if thou canst believe, all things are possible
to him that believeth."
H. Again and again, Jesus says to those that will hear Him, Jesus speaks with power --- with absolute authority!
I. Philip, What are they among so many? With Jesus it is enough, you need not fear!
16. LIFE IS BUT A TEST. THIS IS ONLY A TEST!
Judges 3:1 Now these are the nations which the Lord left, to prove Israel by them, even as many of Israel as had not
known all the wars of Canaan. 4: And they were to prove Israel by them, to know whether they would hearken unto the
commandments of the Lord, which he commanded their fathers by the hand of Moses.
17. FEAR KEEPS US FROM GROWING AND ACHIEVING WHAT GOD DESIRES FOR US.
HEBREWS 5:12 FOR WHEN FOR THE TIME YE OUGHT TO BE TEACHERS, YE HAVE NEED THAT ONE TEACH
YOU AGAIN WHICH BE THE FIRST PRINCIPLES OF THE ORACLES OF GOD; AND ARE BECOME SUCH AS HAVE
NEED OF MILK, AND NOT OF STRONG MEAT.
Those that say it can’t be done are being passed by those that are doing it.
We must overcome fear and the fear of failure to become what God has designed us to be.
