Summary: The Greek word “chalepoi” can, with equal accuracy, be translated perilous, dangerous, terrible, grievous, stressful, distressing or difficult. There can be no doubt but what such days referred to here are already upon us.

PERILOUS TIMES ARE UPON US EVEN NOW!

"But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come." "But evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived." II Timothy 3:1, 13.

I. PERILOUS TIMES WILL COME!

The Greek word “chalepoi” can, with equal accuracy, be translated perilous, dangerous, terrible, grievous, stressful, distressing or difficult.

II. EVIL MEN WILL GROW WORSE AND WORSE!

It is a frightening thought to realize that every lost person has the potential of doing great evil. Consider: “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; who can know it.” Jeremiah 17:9.

Jesus said: “For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders…” Matthew 15:19.

III. OTHER ACCOMPANYING SIGNS:

"And because lawlessness ["iniquity" KJV] will abound, the love of many will grow cold." Matthew 24:12.

"For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power." II Timothy 3:2-5.

"Know this first; that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts, and saying, ’Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation." II Peter 3:3-4.

IV. WHAT THESE THINGS TELL US:

The return of Christ is certain: "In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.” John 14:2-3.

Repent now and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ or face being left behind: "…so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. Then two men will be in the field: one will be taken and the other left. Two women will be grinding at the mill: one will be taken and the other left. Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming." Matthew 24:39b-42.
