OUR GOD IS GREATER
“And the temple which I build will be great, for our God is greater than all gods. But who is able to build Him a temple, since heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain Him? II Chronicles 2:5-6.
The Ten Commandments begin with “Thou shalt have no other gods before Me.” Exodus 20:3. The first commandment is still valid today. Our God is greater than all gods!
I. OUR GOD IS GREATER “than all gods!”
“For the Lord is great and greatly to be praised; He is to be feared above all gods. For all the gods of the peoples are idols, But the Lord made the heavens.” Psalm 96:4-5
“For I know that the Lord is great. And our Lord is above all gods.” Psalm 135:5.
II. OUR GOD IS GREATER THAN ALL HIS CREATION!
Solomon, in his prayer to dedicate the Temple, said: “But will God indeed dwell on the earth? Behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain You. How much less this temple which I have built!” I Kings 8:27.
III. OUR GOD IS GREATER THAN ALL OUR NEEDS!
1. Our material needs:
“Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need al these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” Matthew 6:31-33. Read also Philippians 4:19.
2. Our special needs:
a. Strength:
“But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength. They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31.
b. Healing for the heart:
“He heals the broken hearted, and binds up their wounds.” Psalm 147:3.
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” II Timothy 1:7.
c. Healing for the spirit and the body: “Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases.” Psalm 103:3.
3. Our greatest needs:
a. Salvation: “For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men.” Titus 2:11.
“For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich.” II Corinthians 8:9.
b. Eternal security:
“Who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.” I Peter 1:5.
One may say that our eternal security is contingent upon the continuing of our faith. To this we readily and fully agree! But notice this one great truth that is clearly stated in Ephesians 2:8-10.
Saving faith is the gift of God! It is not a product of our intellect or sagacity. Since saving faith is not of ourselves but is given to us by God Himself, we can safely conclude that which God has given to us through no merit of our own is as eternal as He is.
Let us read:
"For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them." Ephesians 2:8-10 (NKJV).
To which we must add:
"And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.
For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren.
Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified."
Romans 8:28-30 (NKJV)
We rejoice in knowing that from His foreknowledge to our ultimate glorification, the Father did not lose a single solitary one anywhere along the way! To the praise of His glory! AMEN.
