JOHN 6:32-59

John 6:26 Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw the miracles (the supernatural), but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled. (See Matthew 6:25-34)

What Jesus wanted the people to understand and what He wants us to understand is that there is something far more important than physical bread (the physical realm). These people were only following Jesus for the bread (to have there physical needs met).

They didn’t care about the supernatural “not because you saw the miracles” Rather than being God Chasers they were thrill chasers!

Luke 4:4 And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.

What The World has to offer is insufficient!

For many, J. Clifford Baxter was a living embodiment of the American dream. By the age of 43, he was a retired millionaire (worth an estimated 35 million dollars - that’s a lot of bread - but not enough to sustain him), with a mansion in an affluent suburb of Houston, a yacht and a young family consisting of his wife Carol, a 16-year old son and an 11-year old daughter.

He had a seemingly successful career at the energy giant Enron, where he was chief strategy officer and vice chairman. Yet with all that bread, on January 25, 2002 he was found dead in his Black Mercedes-Benz where after an autopsy, it was concluded that he had taken his own life with a .38-caliber revolver.

What Jesus is trying to get them and us to understand is that when we take our last breath all the bread this world has to offer will be insufficient. We need God’s eternal bread - God’s solution for death and life!

God has a plan - It is called the plan of salvation!
