Summary: What is your purpose in life? The same as that of the Lord Jesus Christ! Glorifying God! But we all do that in our own God-given unique way.

“THE PURPOSE OF YOUR LIFE”

JOHN 17:1-5

As a man was driving down the freeway, his car phone rang. When he answered, he heard his wife warn him urgently, "George, I just heard on the news that there’s a car going the wrong way on 280. Please be careful coming home!" "I’m there right now," said George, "and it’s not just one car. It’s hundreds of them!"

Luke 6:47-48 Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like: He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.

What is your purpose in life? The same as that of the Lord Jesus Christ! Glorifying God! But we all do that in our own God-given unique way.

"This one thing I do, not these many things I dabble with." D.L. Moody

Matthew 25:15 And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey.

Romans 12:6 Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, [let us prophesy] according to the proportion of faith;

1 Corinthians 4:7 For who maketh thee to differ [from another]? and what hast thou that thou didst not receive? now if thou didst receive [it], why dost thou glory, as if thou hadst not received [it]?

God has and will make the way and provide what is needed.

2 Corinthians 9:8 And God [is] able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all [things], may abound to every good work:

2 Corinthians 9:11 Being enriched in every thing to all bountifulness, which causeth through us thanksgiving to God.

How do you Glorify God in the unique way in which you were created for? It has to be

1. FOUND

1. Salvation

2 Timothy 1:9 Who hath saved us, and called [us] with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,

2. Revelation

John 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, [that] shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

1 Corinthians 2:10 But God hath revealed [them] unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.

3. Preparation

Luke 2:46-47 And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions. And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers.

Luke 2:52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.

2. FOLLOWED

When I think about the following aspect of God’s purpose, I am reminded of the man who’s cap blew off into a busy freeway and he chased after it right into the path of the traffic and was tragical killed. Later a reporter wrote and article about the incident and said, “he was chasing something that didn’t matter.”

I want you to know chasing God’s purpose does matter and it matters eternally.

1. Sanctification - commitment

Psalms 4:3 But know that the LORD hath set apart him that is godly for himself: the LORD will hear when I call unto him.

2 Timothy 2:21 If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, [and] prepared unto every good work.

2. Submission - obedience

Jeremiah 7:23 But this thing commanded I them, saying, Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be my people: and walk ye in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well unto you.

Joshua 1:8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

3. Spirituality - discernment

Psalms 25:4 Shew me thy ways, O LORD; teach me thy paths.

Psalms 27:11 Teach me thy way, O LORD, and lead me in a plain path, because of mine enemies.

Psalms 143:10 Teach me to do thy will; for thou [art] my God: thy spirit [is] good; lead me into the land of uprightness.

Proverbs 3:6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

3. FULFILLED

1. Priority - assurance

2 Timothy 1:12 For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.

2 Timothy 4:7-8 I have fought a good fight, I have finished [my] course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.

2. Purity - holiness

Luke 1:75 In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life.

1 Chronicles 16:29 Give unto the LORD the glory [due] unto his name: bring an offering, and come before him: worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness.
