Summary: Job speaks of "treasures of the snow". This sermon deals with some of those treasures.

Treasures Of The Snow

Job 38:22 “Hast thou entered into the treasures of the snow ?.......”

Snow Sayings.....

Name of Snow Couple....Willy Melt & Betty Will

Snow kids are a chip off the old block.

A Snowman is a perfect man....well-rounded, and with his own broom.

How are snowmen and real men alike.........they are all flaky !

Know what the snowman said as the thermometer started to climb ?.......I’m losing my head !

And finally....what did the snowman say when he fell over........I used to be snow white, but I drifted !

I don’t know if people who live where it snows often, and alot would consider snow as a treasure, yet the Bible says that there are treasures in the snow. I could have waited til it snowed to preach this message, but then I might not ever get to preach it, or I can preach this message in hopes of it snowing. Personally, I like snow. Perhaps, it because I’m still a kid at heart. I’ve always told children that I’m around that when I grow up I want to be a kid !

There are lessons that God would have us to learn from the snow.....there are treasures in the snow that God would have us to see.

1. Snow is a treasure because of it’s provider.

Psa 148:8

Fire, and hail; snow, and vapor; stormy wind fulfilling his word:

The word “treasure” can also be translated as “storehouse”.

It carrys with it the idea of God storing up snow, and dispenses it at his choosing.

Scientists tell us that snowflakes are actually born in clouds containing moisture. The conditions must be just right for this to take place. The temperature must be well below the freezing point of water. Tiny snow crystals are formed, and as they get heavier they begin to fall, and as they fall they get larger because they pick up more moisture in the atmosphere. Who controls the conditions in the atmosphere.....who created the clouds that act as the storehouse......who dispenses the snow at his choosing ? If God is in control of the snow, and if God can dispense the snow upon the earth....cannot he dispense all the things in life that we need ?

Jam 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

2. Snow is a treasure because of it’s peculiarity.

Did you know that there are many different shapes of snowflakes ? There are 10 general categories that snowflakes fall into. Under a microscope you could see some that are like needles....some like stars.....some like trees......some look like fishbones......some look like bullets......yet here is the amazing thing about them. No two snowflakes are exactly the same.

Snowflakes have their own shape.....their own identity. They each or unique.

People are like the snow in this respect. Of the billions of people upon the earth now.....and those who walked here previously, and those who will be born into the world....there is not nor ever have their been.....two people just a like. We have similarities......but we each have distinct characteristics that separate us from everyone else. Our fingerprints are unique. Our footprints unique. The pattern of even our eyeballs are unique from anyone elses. What does this say about God and us ?

a. Like snow we have a designer.

We are a thing of value. We are special. We have a creator that knew us before we were formed in the womb, and who knit us together distinctly from all others before us !

b. Like snow we have a distinction.

We are not only distinct in the way that we look, but God has a distinct purpose for each one of our lives.

c. Like snow we have a destiny.

Snow has more of a purpose than just to grace our landscape with beauty.

We can see God’s purpose even in the smallest of things........surely God has a purpose for our lives !

3. Snow is a treasure because of it’s purity.

Psa 51:7 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.

Snow has a powerful cleansing effect on the atmosphere....sometimes called “wash-out or snow-out”

Snow is actually formed around some matter already existing in the atmosphere....a piece of dirt......mica

Isa. 1:18 Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.

a. We have been corrupted by sin.

b. We cannot conceal the stain.

c. We can be cleaner than snow.

4. Snow is a treasure because of it’s productivity.

Pro 25:13 As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, so is a faithful messenger to them that send him: for he refresheth the soul of his masters.

Scientists tell us that snow picks up nitrogen in the air when it is formed, and then dispenses it upon the earth as it melts.....thus aiding the productivity of the ground.

Snow makes a impact. It has influence. God wants our lives to be productive not destructive !

a. Productivity begins with the Father.

Snow originates from God. It is dispersed by him. In order for our lives to really have purpose, to be productive.....it begins with a relationship with the Father.

b. Productivity continues when we Fall. (upon our knees)

As the snow falls, it becomes larger, and picks up ingredients in the atmosphere which are useful on the earth. We become more productive in our lives when we fall on our knees !

c. Productivity climbs with Faithfulness.

Jn 15:4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.

5. Snow is a treasure because of it’s power !

We usually look at snow for its beauty.....for it’s recreational purposes.....skiing, snowboarding etc......but seldom do we think of snow as being precious as in a precious commodity......about 20 % of the world’s land mass is covered permanently by snow. In the N. Hem...it is about 40 %. Fresh snow falls on 1 out of every 4 square miles of dry land each year. 1/3 of the world’s water used for irrigation comes from snow. In the Western U.S. nearly 75 % of water for irrigation comes from snow. Snowfall flows on to the scene is the most useful times of the year. Stored in higher elevations until late spring and early summer.....then it melts in time to help in the irrigation of crops. It is snow that powers the great rivers of the west....the Rio Grande, the Colorado, the Missouri, the Columbia. How much water is produced by snowfall in a year ? It is estimated that melted snow produces 26 trillion gallons a water alone each year in the Columbia River. That’s enough water to cover the state of Kansas in knee deep water or to raise the level of Lake Michigan by six foot.

God can use something as small as a snowflake as a source of power. Snow helps to control the depth, and the current of the great rivers out west. God has the power to change us, and then to use us as instruments.

a. instruments to affect change.

b. instruments to affect current.

c. instruments to affect choices.

6. Snow is a treasure because of its passage.

Snow is precious......esp. to us here in Ga. It is only here for a short time.....then it melts away.

Jam 4:14 Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life ? It is even a vapor, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.

a. Like snow we do not remain.

b. Like snow we do return.

c. Like snow we do not retain.

We shall be changed......doth not yet appear.

Such treasures in the snow. Snow that can help us see the Father.

We are of much greater value than even snow ! God wants to wash us, and clean us to the point that we are whiter than snow !
