Seeing Jesus
Luke 9:7-9
Intro.
-Herod had heard of all that Jesus had done.
--Preaching
--Healing
--Miracles
-He seemed to be confused because he was confusing
Jesus with John the Baptist.
--He had beheaded John the Baptist.
--He thought this problem was over.
--Could he have risen from the dead?
-As for Jesus “who is this’? (Vs. 9)
-It is interesting that Herod the king wanted to see
Jesus.
I. Herod the King wanted to see Him. Luke 9:7-9
-Herod had heard about the things that Jesus had done.
--Was he was curious?
--Was he was cautious?
--He could have summoned Him to the palace.
-Herod did see Jesus. Luke23:8
--He was glad.
--He had wanted to see Him for a long time.
--He had heard many things.
--He had hoped to see a miracle. (Wrong motive)
--He questioned him (and sent Him back to Pilot)
-Herod saw Jesus and turned Him away.
II. Zacchaeus wanted to see Jesus. Luke 19:1-9
-Zacchaeus had heard that Jesus was coming to town.
-He wanted to see Him. Vs 3
-He could not see Him because he was too short to see
Him over the crowd
-He climbed that sycamore tree.
-Jesus came to the place…
--Looked up
--Saw him
--And said….vs 5
-Zacchaeus saw Jesus
--Came down from the tree (made haste)
--RECEIVED Him Joyfully
-Where Herod had turned Jesus away…Zacchaeus received Him JOYFULLY.
-Zacchaeus was saved. Vs 9-10
III. The Greeks wanted to see Jesus. John 12:20-22
-These were Greek speaking gentiles.
-Probably had converted to Judaism. Vs 20
-The first came to Phillip. Vs 21
-Phillip tells Andrew.
-Together the go to tell Jesus.
-Did they see Jesus?
--The Bible doesn’t say either way
--I believe they did see him and heard Him speak of
his own pending death. Vs27-32
IV. I want to see Him.
-John 20:29 Jesus said “…blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed”.
-One day I will see Him.
1 John 3:2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is
-There will be a day when every eye shall see Him.
Rev. 1: 7 Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen
Conclusion.
-We will either see Him as our Loving Savior.
-Or see Him as the final judge.
-In any case you will see Him as Lord.
Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Will you turn Him away like Herod, or recieve Him like Zacchaeus. John 1:12
How will you see Him? As Savior or Judge?
-He is Lord no matter how you see Him now.
