HYMN #24: WHO IS THIS KING OF GLORY?

Psalm 24

This psalm was written on the day that the Ark of the Covenant was brought to Jerusalem. Before Israel had a king, Israel was defeated by the Philistines and the Philistines captured the Ark. After 7 months of tumors and outbreaks of panic and fear, the Philistines sent the Ark back to Israel. The Ark went from Beth Shemesh- where many died because they looked inside of the Ark- to Kiriath Jearim, where it stayed during the entire reign of Saul.

David had attempted to bring the Ark to Jerusalem a time before and it turned into a disaster; but now the time came for the Ark to be brought to Jerusalem. There was great shouting and rejoicing as the ark was being taken to Jerusalem. As they traveled, this song was sung. As they entered the gates, this song was sung.

Years later after the temple had been built, various psalms were sung in each day¡¦s liturgy. On Monday, Psalm 48; Tuesday, Psalm 82; Wednesday, Psalm 94; Thursday, Psalm 81; Friday, Psalm 93; Saturday, Psalm 92; and on Sunday, Psalm 24. Think about this: On the very day that Jesus arose from the grave, the temple choir was singing this Psalm. Let us look together at the question found in this psalm: ¡§Who is this King of glory¡¨?

Psalm 24:1-2

„© He is Creator.

Psalm 24:3-6

„© He is Savior. Who can go into God¡¦s presence? He who is perfect. Through the blood of the King of kings we can go into the presence of God. This is the only way to get to God the Father is through the blood of Jesus. Jesus came to seek and save that which is lost, and He will save us if we accept God¡¦s gift of salvation.

Psalm 24:7-10

„© He is the King. He is strong and mighty. He can conquer any problem you have if you will allow Him to be King of your life. Let Him be your King.
