This morning we are going to partake of the Lord¡¦s Supper in a similar manner that the Jews celebrated Passover. As our Scripture passage states, a non-Christian cannot partake of the Lord¡¦s Supper. Any Christian believer here is welcome to partake of the Lord¡¦s Supper with us; but this Scripture passage also says that Christians are to examine themselves before they partake of the Lord¡¦s Supper. At this time we are going to have a time of self-examination.
[Have everyone come to the altar.]
1. If you are here without Christ as Savior and you want to cover your life in the blood of the Lamb so that when your life on this earth is ended you will have eternal life in Heaven; then you need to come to me and allow me to tell you how to do this.
2. If you are a believer in Jesus Christ, then before you take of the Lord¡¦s Supper today you need to examine your life and get things right with God before you do so. This is your opportunity to do so.

Exodus 12:1-30
The Date
1. On the 10th day of Nissan (first called Abib) at the first Passover, the head of the family was to go and get the lamb that was going to be used. This lamb had to be a spotless lamb.
2. It was on the 10th of Nissan when Jesus Christ entered into Jerusalem on that Palm Sunday. God the Father had brought the Lamb to the place where the Passover was to take place.
John 1:29
The Time
1. The Paschal lamb was to be killed on the evening of the 14th of Nisan and then eaten on the 15th of Nisan. The Jewish day started in the evening. The Feast of Unleavened Bread began on Nisan 15 and lasted seven days ending on Nisan 21.
Luke 23:44-46
2. Jesus was crucified on the 14th of Nisan and died on the 15th of Nisan.
Now that the setting is in place, let us remember what Jesus Christ did for us on that Day of Passover almost 2000 years ago as we partake of the Lord¡¦s Supper.

Luke 22:17-18
This is the first cup and it was the cup of thanksgiving.

„© After they drank the cup they washed their hands and ate some of the bitter herbs. Jesus made an alteration at this point. This is when Jesus washed the feet of the Twelve.

„© Jesus gave His life for the sins of the world. The Creator became the servant for us.
Cup #2
At this point, the youngest in the group would ask, ¡§What does this service mean¡¨? The one leading the feast would then say, ¡§It is the sacrifice of the Lord¡¦s Passover, who passed over the houses of the Children of Israel in Egypt, when He smote the Egyptians, and delivered our houses¡¨. He then would explain what the bitter herbs and unleavened bread symbolized. After this the people were asked to give thanks to God for what He had done.

After they drank the cup they would wash their hands again. Then the unleavened bread was passed out.

Luke 22:19
The unleavened bread was broken and a prayer of thanksgiving was given. After the prayer of thanksgiving; they would eat the bread, then the bitter herbs, and then the lamb.
„© Jesus body was beat to a ¡§pulp¡¨ for us. He had a crown of thorns slammed down on His head. He was nailed to a cross for us.
„© The unleavened bread symbolized Jesus¡¦ purity and that we as followers of Jesus are to live pure and sinless lives.
„© The bitter herbs are to remind us of the bitterness of our sins that Jesus died for.

The third cup was filled, thanks given, and then they drank it. This cup was the ¡§cup of blessing¡¨.

Matthew 26:30
The hymn that was sung was Psalm 115-118. They then prayed a prayer of thanksgiving and asked God to go with them as they departed. They then drank the 4th cup and left.
