All That The Father Giveth Me

(John 6:37-40)

37 All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.

Intro.

I don’t know if this hits you like it does me? How marvelous to know that everyone that God the Father has chosen shall come to Jesus Christ. It is not hoping that this one or that one shall come but a divine guarentee that everyone that has been chosen shall come.

I. The Exclusiveness Of Divine Grace:

There is but one way of salvation, that is through and by our Lord Jesus Christ.

1. He Is Saying The Only Way One Can Have Salvation Is Through Jesus:

He declared in, Jn. 14:6, “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”

Luke the writer of the book of Acts wrote, “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” Acts 4:12

After we read these words, can anyone say, I don’t think it is necessary to trust in Jesus Christ.

John 3:18, He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

John 5:23, “That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him.”

Mark 16:16, He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

With all this said, wewant to drop back to the Father,

John 6:44, “No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.” (draw much stronger)

None can come to Christ except they have life. Dead men cannot come to someone. When Jesus called for Lazarus to come forth, he had to give unto him life. It was not a dead man that came forth from the tomb, but one that had been dead but was now alive. What a glorious picture of our salvation.

2. Turning From All Confidence In Self And Others:

To come to one person we must turn away from others. To come to Jesus we must turn away from the world, we must turn away from self, we must stop serving Satan. Jesus said, “You cannot serve God and mammon.”

To come to Christ is to trust Him for our salvation, when God gives us life he points us toward the Captain of our salvation. He that has paid the ransom to redeem us. We must stop trusting in self, most people believe their lives are pretty good, until they meet that One Who is altogether perfect.

3. This Is The Words Of Christ Jesus:

“Shall come unto Me” He did not say he that believes a particular doctrine, nor he that joins a particular church, or denomination. Nor did He say, he that comes to a preacher, but “they shall come to Me.” Only in the last few years have I ever heard anyone say, that men could have eternal life without trusting or coming to Jesus Christ.

4. Who Is This Who Called Jesus?:

The eternal Son of the eternal Father, He it was Who stepped down from glory to be born of a virgin, that He might grow to adulthood, and be crucified for you and I. He declared Himself to be God, He said, I and the Father are one. He said, if you have seen Me you have seen the Father.

Who is He? He is the creator of all things, John 1:3, All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. The Apostle Paul in his letter to the Colosee church, said, For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:

17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. Col 1:16-17

This is He that walked with Adam in the cool of the evening, this is He Who spoke with Abraham. It was He Who walked out into the emptiness of space and said “Let the earth be formed from nothing and it was so.” He could thrust His Hand heavenward and scatter stars across the vastness of this universe, like diamonds on a jewelers cloth. It was He who scooped up earth and molded the shape of man, and breathed into his nostrils and he became a living soul.

Who is He? When the angel Gabriel came down to earth with the announcement of His glorious birth, saying, “Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.

21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.

22 Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying,

23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.” Matt 1:20-23

Who is He? He is God walking amonst men. Paul described Him in Phil 2:5-11

Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:

7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:

8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:

10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;

11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

II. The Omnipotence Of Divine Grace:

He did not say some may come, nor we hope to have a harvest, but declared for men to know “All that the Father giveth me shall come to me” Again let me pass on to you what was said to me. One of the elders said, the way we became known as hard shells was, we believed the word, when it says shall we believe it shall. And we were called hard shalls, that later became hard shells. You may or may not believe this is so, but I like it.

1. There Were Some Given To Christ Jesus:

We believe the Bible teaches that before this world was ever created God chose a people, a reward for the Son, for His sufferings and death to redeem us from sin. There are many scriptures that teach this, and the only reason He gives for His choosing is that it pleases Him.

1 Pet 2:9-10, But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:

10 Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

Our hymns declare it as well as the scripture look at The Churches One Foundation on page 411, says, “Elect from every nation, yet one o’er all the earth, her charter of salvation, one Lord, one faith, one birth. One holy Name she blesses, partakes one holy food; and to one hope she presses, with every grace endued.”

In John 10:24-29, Then came the Jews round about him, and said unto him, How long dost thou make us to doubt? If thou be the Christ, tell us plainly. Jesus answered them, I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I do in my Father’s name, they bear witness of me. But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you.

My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:

And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand.

2. Christ Said They Shall Come:

This is good news especially to His ministers. I have had times when I thought all I have done has been in vain, and then my Lord blesses by sending another sheep for the flock. He said they shall come to Him, I cannot make it happen neither can I stop the process, it is all in God’s hands.

We look at the small congregation that we have and cry out O Lord are we going to die as a church? Numbers drop low and then God again blesses. Someone might ask what should we be doing? Should we be inviting people, and I would say of course, but the greatest thing we can do is make sure our lives are right before God and pray that we as a church are pleasing and acceptable to Him.

III. The Fulness And Freeness Of This Divine Grace:

1. Everyone That Comes Shall Surely Be Saved:

What a statement! But, we must understand we are not speaking of coming to the preacher but coming to Christ Jesus. To deny this is to deny God’s Word. Those who come can be none other that those into whom He has breathed life through the Holy Spirit. And His word says, “him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.”

Surely preacher it means that if he lives right and serves the Lord he will not be cast out. He did not say that, if we were required to live a perfect life, then none of us will make it. Rom 3:23-25

For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:

25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; Aren’t you glad it says all, otherwise we might think there was some that lived a life without being mired in sin. We are all in the same boat, we cannot make it without the blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.
