Summary: We cant hide who we are from Christ

He Knows Who You Are

John 13:18-30

Many times we do things that we think are going unnoticed. Mom or dad, husband or wife, friend or neighbor may not have a clue as to what is going on. But friend let me tell you that there is an all seeing eye that knows who you are and knows what you are.

Today in our text I want us to look at this one who knows who we are and knows what we are up to. I want us to look at the life of Judas and how Christ knew that this was the betrayer.

Then in closing I want us to draw our attention to the fact that Christ knows who we are. He knows everything about you from the number of hairs on your head to who has been sleeping in your bed. He knows all and sees all.

Note three things about this chapter before we focus in on our text.

1. The Table (1-3)

2. The Towel (4-17)

3. The Traitor (18-30)

Now as we look at this traitor I want us to look at it under the heading of three statements.

I. There Is One (18-22)

II. Who Is It (23-26)

III. This Is Him (18-30)

I. There Is One (18-22)

As we began to study this thought, we learn two things:

A. He was a Prophesied Man

Ps 41:9 says, “Yea, mine own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, which did eat of my bread, hath lifted up his heel against me.”

John 6:70-71 says, “Jesus answered them, Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil? He spake of Judas Iscariot the son of Simon: for he it was that should betray him, being one of the twelve.”

B. He was a Present Man (18, 21)

Not only was the traitor a man that had been prophesied but He was also a man that was present. One of the men that was sitting at the table of the Lord and eating bread with the Lord was one of the men that would betray the Lord.

II. Who Is It (23-26)

Note how this became the topic of discussion when they began to try and figure out who this betrayer was.

Note two things with me:

A. The Question of John (25)

The beloved disciple that lay on the bosom of Christ asked the Lord as to whom this man was that would betray Him.

B. The Quote of Jesus (26)

Jesus responds to this question by saying that he would take a sop or a moral and dip it and then would give it to the one that would betray Him.

III. This Is Him (27-30)

We close today by seeing who this one was that betrayed Christ. Note it was the one that received the SOP.

Lets note what this SOP is and how it points us toward the one that betrayed the Son of God.

A. Satan Owned Person (27)

“…Satan entered into him…”

B. Skilled On Pretending (28)

“Now no man at the table knew for what intent he speak this unto him.”

C. Steadily Occupied Position (29)

“…Judas had the bag…”

D. Slipped Out Promptly (30)

“…went immediately out…”

E. Son of Perdition (John 17:12)

John 17:12 says, “While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled.”

Perdition = total destruction, destroy, rain, lose

F. Sought Out Place (John 18:2)

John 18:2 says, “And Judas also, which betrayed him, knew the place: for Jesus ofttimes resorted thither with his disciples.”

G. Searched Out Priest (Mark 14:10)

Mark 14:10 says, “And Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, went unto the chief priests, to betray him unto them.”

H. Settled On Price (Matthew 26:15)

Matt 26:15 says, “And said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver.”

Thirty pieces of silver = price of a slave

I. Saddened Over Present (Matthew 27:3)

Matt 27:3 says, “Then Judas, which had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders.”

J. Suicide Over Past (Matthew 27:5)

Matt 27:5 says, “And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself.”

K. Same Old Person

The number one problem with Judas is that he was the same old person.

Many of us today have a lot of people fooled, but let me tell you that He knows who you are. And maybe He is telling you today that you are just the SAME OLD PERSON. If so why not get it right today.
