How to receive your healing

James 5:14-16

1. “Call upon”

a. When you call for someone, you call them because you believe that they can do something for you

i. You call believing, trusting, expecting and knowing that the person will do something for you

1. You know that they have something you need

a. Notice that James (the author) says that what they need will be channel through the leaders

b. They have something to give you

b. So when you call upon, you are calling with an expectancy to receive

i. God’s healing fall upon those with RECEPTIVITY

1. God has set a divine order for you to receive your healing

a. There will be times when you ask Jesus to heal and it will happen, but there will be times when you will need to call upon the leaders of the church – follow God’s divine order of blessing

2. Hebrews 11:6 “…for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him”

a. “Bless the Lord, Oh my soul, and forget not all his benefit: who forgives all your iniquities; who heals all your diseases” (Ps. 103:2-3)

2. “Pray”

a. There ways the leaders ought to pray

i. “over him”

1. Through the laying of hands

a. Luke 4:40 “and laying his hands on each one of them, he was healing them”

b. Acts 28:8 “And Paul went to see him and after he had prayed, he laid his ands on him and healed him.”

c. Mark 16:18 “They shall lay hands on the sick and they shall be healed”

2. Laying of hands in the bible represents “impartation” and/or “transfer”

a. The question we then ask is “What is being imparted or transfer to the sick person?”

ii. “anointing with oil”

1. lit. “having anointed with oil”

2. oil symbolizes the Holy Spirit

a. impartation of the Holy Spirit power from the leader to the believer

i. Mark 6:13 they “were anointing with oil many sick people and healing them”

ii. Luke 4:18 READ – Year of jubilee (all captives were set free – Leviticus 25:11)

1. “proclaim” we are under a mandate (“sent”) to declare liberation to the captives

a. Liberty has to be proclaim

i. Everything goes back to the rightful owner.

ii. The devil has no right to torment these bodies

b. That is why Jesus could say with authority “Rise, I say to you, get up, and pick up your stretcher and go home” (Luke 5:24)

c. Disciples – Acts 3:6 “But Peter said, Silver and gold have I none, but in the name of Jesus Christ, rise up and walk”

i. It is like saying, “here, take God’s power and walk”

ii. Peter gave him what he had, the anointing power of the Holy Ghost

2. The declaration is saying:

a. “set the captive free”

b. to sickness “let my people go”

3. Psalms 107:20 “He sent his word, and healed them”

3. It is this anointing of the power of God that Jesus healed the sick: “Peter said, you know…how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil, for God was with Him” (Acts 10

a. We use the name of Jesus, because we are declaring freedom from sickness by the authority of the Lord Jesus

i. SICKNESS IS AN INTRUDER

iii. “offered in faith”

1. lit. “of faith” – prayer of faith

a. faith is the open door through which the power of Jesus comes in

i. we need to touch Jesus with our faith

1. Mark 6:56 people were “imploring Him that they might just touch the fringe of his cloak and as many touched it were cured”

b. According to your faith (leader + believer)

i. Matthew 9:28-29 “Do you believe I am able? It shall be done according to your faith”

1. Take Jesus at his Word

a. John 4:50 “Jesus said to him, Go your son lives, the man bleived the word that Jesus spoke to him and started off” son was healed

2. I am not moved by what I see, I am moved only by what I believe

ii. It is not enough to be curious

c. There is one place where Jesus was only able to do a few miracles – HOMETOWN (Mark 6:5-6)

i. “And he wondered at their unbelief”

1. they refuse

2. not I can’t, but I won’t

d. Stop putting healing in categories of difficulties

i. Jus as sin is sin, so is a miracle a miracle

e. Believe in the credentials of Jesus

i. If I were to seek out to get my car fix, I would go to somebody who is reliable and has a good reputation

1. Exodus 15:26 “I am the Lord that healeth thee”

2. The healings of Jesus is not a revelation of who he was, but who he is.

ii. God’s healing work has not gone out of business

1. The problem we often have is not that we don’t believe that God can, but whether he will

a. We just don’t have a teaching Jesus, but a supernatural Jesus

2. How Much faith do you need?

a. Mustard seed size faith (Matt. 17:20)

i. “nothing will be impossible to you”

b. Promise: “the Lord will raise him up”

i. That is why all the glory belongs to him

iv. “confess your sins”

1. unforgiveness, a critical spirit, hidden sin, gossiper, selfishiness,

a. I Cor. 11:30 some are “weak and sickly among you”

i. Not considering the rest of the body

ii. SIN PARALYZES FAITH, AND FAITH PARALYZES SIN
