Series: Christmas Brings¡K[#5]

LOVE

Matthew 2:13-23

Introduction:

A standard complaint heard at Christmas time is that Christmas is too costly. Is Christmas too costly? The answer to this question depends on each individual¡¦s viewpoint.

Matthew 2:13-23

Christmas¡¦ Cost

What about the first Christmas? Was it costly?

„© It cost Mary and Joseph the long trip to Bethlehem and then the journey to Egypt to protect Jesus from Herod.

„© It cost mothers and fathers in and around Bethlehem the massacre of their babies by Herod.

„© It cost the shepherds time from their work for a journey to Bethlehem.

„© It cost the wise men a long journey and expensive gifts.

„© It cost God the Father His Son.

„© It cost Jesus His life.

Philippians 2:6-8

Is Christmas costly? Yes. Is Christmas too costly?

Christmas Is Too Costly If¡K

„© Christmas is too costly if it does not mean hope. The world had been looking for the Messiah for years. The waiting had become long and the world was almost without hope when the angels brought their message of hope. Those who know the Christ will never be without hope. The hopeless are all those without Christ.

„© Christmas is too costly if we do not receive God¡¦s gift, if we do not experience God¡¦s love. No one understands the first Christmas until they experience the love of God in Christ and then show it to others.

„© Christmas is too costly if we do not experience the forgiveness of sins. We have overlooked the true meaning of Christmas if we forget that Jesus¡¦ purpose for coming into the world was to seek and save the lost.

„© Christmas is too costly if we do not proclaim the Good News. What is the good news of Christmas?

Luke 2:11

¡§Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.¡¨

One of the greatest privileges we have as Christians is to share Jesus with those who do not know Him.

Conclusion:

Christmas is not too costly if we respond to Jesus Christ as our Savior. There is no greater love that what God has done for us by sending His Son to this earth to become our sacrifice.

Christians, we must share and show that love to a world that needs Jesus.
