Summary: As members of the 21st Century church, it is essential that we understand, the totality and the fullness of God and the Power of His Name.

Series: The Power of the Name (Philippians 2: 9-10 ~ Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;)

Sermon 1: What Is His Name?

Scripture : Exodus 3:13-14 ~ And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them? And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you. (KJV)

As the Spirit shines his light of illumination upon this text, we discover that there is none liken unto our God. Nobody can compare with Jehovah God.

I believe it was Isaiah, who records, "Before me there was God formed, and there will be none after me; I, even I, am the Lord Jehovah, and there is no Savior beside me."

It was Jeremiah who writes to us, "Call unto me," Jeremiah 33:3, "and I will answer thee, and shew you great and mighty things."

David found himself in trouble sure enough, but it was in trouble that he found out that "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear though the earth be remover and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea." (Psalm 46:1-2)

I had to learn that God is so bad till he is everything I need before I need it, and he is ready to perform at the point of my neeed to the extremity of my need.

When I need a provider, I can look in his word and find out:

Psalms 36:8 ~ They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of thy house; and thou shalt make them drink of the river of thy pleasures.

John 10:10 ~ The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

2 Corinthians 9:8 ~ And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:

Ephesians 3:20 ~ Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,

Philippians 4:19 ~ But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

2 Peter 1:11 ~ For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

When I need him to be a Protector, I can look in His word and find out:

Exodus 14:14 ~ The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.

2 Chronicles 16:9 ~ For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein thou hast done foolishly: therefore from henceforth thou shalt have wars.

Psalm 34:7 ~ The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them.

Zechariah 2:5 ~ For I, saith the LORD, will be unto her a wall of fire round about, and will be the glory in the midst of her.

When I need him to be a preparer, I can look in his word and find:

Psalm 23:1 ~ Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

Psalm31:19 ~ Oh how great is thy goodness, which thou hast laid up for them that fear thee; which thou hast wrought for them that trust in thee before the sons of men!

Matthew 22:4 ~ Again, he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them which are bidden, Behold, I have prepared : and all things are ready: come.

Matthew 25:34 ~ Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

John 14:2 ~ In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.

Let me that alone. I’m sorry, that’s another sermon.

Paul lets us know in Philippians 2:9-10 "Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;" to the glory of God.

See that’s the problem you’ve been given the glory to the wrong names.

You want to give Ray Charles glory.

You want to give Luther Vandross glory.

You want to give Lil’ Flip glory.

You want to give T.I. glory.

You want to give Beyonce glory.

You want to give Fantasia glory.

You want to give T. D. Jakes glory.

You want to give Creflo Dollar glory.

You want to give Tonex glory.

You want to give everybody else glory.

But when people turn their backs on you - God still gets the glory.

When Luther’s voice is gone - God still gets the glory.

When T. I. can’t rhyme anymore - God still gets the glory.

When Beyonce can’t OohOohOohOoh anymore - God still gets the glory.

When Lil Flip can’t flow anymore - God still gets the glory.

When Fantasia can’t hold a straight note - God still gets the glory.

When Jakes falls on his sickbed - God still gets the glory.

When Creflo can’t find a Dollar - God still gets the glory.

When Tonex’s long gone - God still gets the glory.

If you don’t give him glory the birds will give it to him.

If you don’t give him glory the trees will give it to him.

If you don’t give him glory the rocks will give it to him.

Some way, somehow, God shall get some glory out of this.

Angels bow before him.

Heaven and earth adore Him.

What a mighty God we serve.

So tell me who can stand before us,

When we call on that Great name

Jesus, Jesus, Precious Jesus

Satan, You have to flee.

The Bible says, in 1 Chronicles 29:12, "Both riches and honour come of thee, and thou reignest over all; and in thine hand is power and might; and in thine hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all." But I like how 2 Chronicles 25:8 says it, "But if thou wilt go, do it; be strong for the battle: God shall make thee fall before the enemy: for God hath power to help, and to cast down." Job proclaimed in Job 26:12 that "He divideth the sea with his power, and by his understanding he smiteth through the proud." David affirms us in Psalm 65:6 "Which by his strength setteth fast the mountains; being girded with power:"

This text shows us how after 40 years of breaking and building in a place of seclusion and sanctification on the back side of the desert, Elohim, God Self-Existent, called a exiled Prince named, Moses.

God doesn’t want to use people that he can’t make. He needs people, who can be sent back and broken. He needs vessels. Jeremiah told me that God told him to "Arise, and go down to the potter’s house, and there I will cause thee to hear my words. Then I went down to the potter’s house, and, behold, he wrought a work on the wheels. And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it."

I like that because it parallels with a great truth found in our text chapter up around verses 2 and 3. It lets us know, sometimes God has to show you something so awesome that is can’t be nobody but God.

God has to show you something so marvelous that it couldn’t be nobody but God.

The reason I know this is because God can’t really show you a glimpse of himself and his glory without you changing. Look at what Isaiah said, "4And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it. Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly. And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory. And the posts of the door moved at the voice of him that cried, and the house was filled with smoke." But this is the part I want you to see. Verse 5 through 7 says, "Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts. Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar: And he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged."

Just a moment in his presence can turn your life completely around.

When I look at our text God had to sit me down and let me know that His name is Holy. His name is so holy, that when it was translated and transcribed into the Old Testament, they would stop everything, take a complete bath, put on clean clothes, use a brand new pen that had never been used before just to write the name Jehovah. His name is so holy, that when the Hebrews write His name, they write JHVH because that serves as a representative of the fact that man can not fathom or surpass the totality and the completeness, the entirety of his person.

They thought about how he framed the worlds by the word of his mouth.

They thought about how he said "Let there be" future tense, and there was past tense.

They thought about how he flung the stars into their sockets.

They thought about how he hung the sun and the moon in their proper placing.

They thought about how he gave the birds their songs and the winds its purr.

He’s God all by himself. 6,823 times in the Old Testament alone, he is referred to as Elohim, which comes from the root which indicates, to be and become. I like that because it lets me know that even though he is, he will allow himself to become what I need.

So quickly allow me and God to show you three things about his person to help you understand the Power of the Name.

And when God begin to deal with me on this, he let me know that he is Accountable.

That is important to the body of Christ, because if we was to rely and depend on some of the people in it, we’d be a mess. Some people will tell you one thing and do the complete opposite. But thanks be unto God that he is accountable to his word.

Hebrews 6:13 tells us, "For when God made promise to Abraham, because he could swear by no greater, he sware by himself,"

In other words God interposed himself by himself.

He introduced himself by himself.

He interjected himself by himself.

He inserted himself by himself

He interpolated himself by himself.

When God could swear by no greater he sware by himself.

He tells us in Isaiah 55:11, "So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it."

I like that because it takes us to the place of knowing that God holds himself by his word. He says in Jeremiah 1: 12 "I will hasten my word to perform it."

God is not looking for a way to get out of his word.

God is not looking for a way to get around his word.

God is not looking for a way to circumvent his word.

God is not looking for a way to avoid his word.

God is not looking for a way to evade his word.

He is looking rather for a way to bring his word to pass.

He is looking for a way to carry out his word.

He is looking for a way to achieve his word.

He is looking for a way to execute his word.

He is looking for a way to perform his word.

If he said it, he meant it.

If he meant it, he planned it.

If he planned it, he purposed it.

If he purposed it, he predestined it.

And Romans 8 lets us to know, "Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.31What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things? Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth. Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

But not only is he accountable, God is an available God.

He is a God that makes himself open for us to call on in the times of need. He’s not like some people I know.

They tell you call them, and give you a disconnected number.

They tell you to call, and every time you call nobody’s home.

They tell you to call, and right before you can get started good, they got another call on line 2.

But David told me in Psalms 91:15, "He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him." Then Isaiah insists in Isaiah 58:9, "Then shalt thou call, and the LORD shall answer; thou shalt cry, and he shall say, Here I am." And Zechariah 13:9 lets us to know, "And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people: and they shall say, The LORD is my God." Then Jesus told his disciples in Luke 11:9 "And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you."

If you need him, just call Him.

But finally, not only is he accountable, not only is he available, but he’s just plain ole able.

He’s able to be whatever you want him to be.

He has his own world.

He has his own factory.

He has his own workshop.

He is his own person.

He doesn’t need to prove anything to anybody.

Whatever you want, he’s got it.

He is able to make all grace abound toward you and me so that we will be able to have all sufficiency in all things so that we will be able to abound in every good work.

Nobody owns him.

Nobody made him.

Nobody found him.

Nobody created him.

Nobody formed him.

Nobody shaped him.

Nobody fashioned him.

FOR HE IS THE CREATOR.

He made the heavens and the earth.

His name tells us that He always was, and always will be.

Everything that is came from him.

It doesn’t matter what the problem may be.

It doesn’t matter who the problem may be.

It doesn’t matter where the problem may be.

He can handle every situation.

He is everything you need.

He is unchangeable.

He will never fail.

Paul said that "He is able to do exceedingly abundant above everything that you may ask or think according to the power that works in you." He’s the Alpha and Omega. He is the beginning and the ending. He’s the first and he’s the last.
