How to Experience the Promises of God

Ptr. Glenn Narvaez - February 17, 2006

4 Facts We Need to Know

a. God is a blesser

"Your father’s God helps you. God All-Powerful blesses you. He blesses you with rain from above. He blesses you with water from springs below. He blesses you with many babies born to your wives. He blesses you with many young ones born to your animals." (Gen 49:25 ICB)

"All these blessings will come upon you and accompany you if you obey the LORD your God:" (Deu 28:2 NIV)

"With God’s power working in us, God can do much, much more than anything we can ask or think of." (Eph 3:20 ICB)

b. God is not a liar

"God is not a man. He will not lie. God is not a human being. He does not change his mind. What he says he will do, he does. What he promises, he keeps." (Num 23:19 ICB)

"so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it." (Isa 55:11 NIV)

c. God is faithful

"Know therefore that the LORD your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commands." (Deu 7:9 NIV)

d. God is holy

"But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear." (Isa 59:2 NIV)

"If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened;" (Psa 66:18 NIV)

Psa 66:18: "Regard" means here "to look with favor upon" or "plan." The believer must take the same attitude toward sin which God takes. A clear conscience, i.e., one devoid of a desire for sin, is necessary for effectual prayer (cf. Isa. 59:2; Heb. 10:22; 1 John 3:21).

THINGS TO DO TO EXPERIENCE GOD’S PROMISES

1. WE NEED TO HEAR FROM GOD

"My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me" (John 10:27 NIV)

The secret is INTIMACY!

2. WE NEED FAITH

"So we see that they were not able to enter, because of their unbelief." (Heb 3:19 NIV)

"Early in the morning they left for the Desert of Tekoa. As they set out, Jehoshaphat stood and said, "Listen to me, Judah and people of Jerusalem! Have faith in the LORD your God and you will be upheld; have faith in his prophets and you will be successful."" (2 Chr 20:20 NIV)

3. WE NEED TO OBEY

"You will be blessed if you obey the commands of the Lord your God. I am giving them to you today." (Deu 11:27 ICB)

"Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says." (James 1:22 NIV)

"Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror" (James 1:23 NIV)

4. WE NEED PATIENCE

"We do not want you to become lazy. Be like those who have faith and patience. They will receive what God has promised." (Heb 6:12 ICB)

5. WE NEED TO SUBMIT

"Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you." (James 1:21 NIV)

"Obey your leaders and submit to their authority. They keep watch over you as men who must give an account. Obey them so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no advantage to you." (Heb 13:17 NIV)

6. WE NEED TO BE STRONG

"Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD." (Psa 27:14 NIV)

7. WE NEED TO FIGHT FOR THOSE PROMISES

"Timothy, my son, I give you this instruction in keeping with the prophecies once made about you, so that by following them you may fight the good fight," (1 Tim 1:18 NIV)
