Blind Faith Text: Matthew 9 27-31
Blind faith isn’t assuming something far fetched, nor is it placing a fleece before God before you ever take action. Blind faith simply believes Jesus and God’s word and then acts on it! Blind faith is trusting without feeling or seeing; blind faith is a deep understanding that the Holy Spirit lives big within. Blind faith comes to every believer who decides that when he or she falls they will learn and grow and become wiser! Sometimes when a person can’t see their way out and all options are gone then God can take control!
I. Illustration: blind fold a man and lead him around! 1. This person is absolutely dependant on me. 2. He has to allow me to provide for him.
A. Other examples of faith in Matthew 9 Jesus is worshiped by a ruler of that city, and the ruler ask Jesus to lay hands on his dead daughter, so Jesus goes inside the girls house where flute players and wailers were. Jesus cast them out, and then he takes the dead girl by the hand, and the girl arouse! Also, in chapter 9, He is just being Himself while a woman with an issue of blood for 12 years comes to Him with strong faith and say’s to herself, “if only I can touch the hem of His garment I shall be made whole!”
B. Now here’s the story of the two blind men. In Matthew 9: 29 And He touched their eyes, saying, “According to your faith let it be to you.” (Many times we stop right there because this happened to two blind men and it’s history.)
C. Several years ago during a Monday night football game, one of the announcers observed that Walter Payton, a great runnning back for the Chicago Bears, had just accumulated more that nine miles in career rushing yardage- a phenomenal feat. The other announcer underscored the accomplishment by noting: " And that’s with someone knocking him down every 4.6 yards!" Walter Payton’s average carry was under five yards! His brilliance was not in long sprinting runs from goal line to goal line. Rather, it was in his ability to keep getting up each time he was tackled, and to keep running again and again and again!
D. One man said, “Our expectations wield tremendous power and influence in our lives!” Notice vs. 29 say’s, according to your faith let it be to you.
E. #1. We usually receive what we believe! Unfortunately, this principle works as strongly in the negative as it does in the positive!
F. Example: I run 2 miles every other day, but I didn’t start running 2 miles until I was willing to believe for 1 mile! Low expectations destroy marriages, churches and people!
G. Psalm 78: 40-41 How often they provoked Him in the wilderness, and grieved Him in the desert! 41). Yes, again and again they tested God, and limited the Holy One of Israel.
H. Matthew 9: 27-28 (Read) #2. Do you believe that Jesus is able to do this? Are you so focused on the problem that you can’t see the answer?
I. Jesus knew what these men needed; He just wanted to know if their faith was genuine! They said, “ Yes, Lord; we believe!”
J. Matthew 9: 29-30 (Read) #3. Notice, it was their faith that turned the situation around. It was their believing that brought them the healing!
K. Others can pray for you, but no one can have faith for you! You have to take charge of your life, and say, “ no matter what happens I will believe God!”
K. #4. What you believe has a bigger impact on your life than what anybody else believes!
L. Vs. 29 in “The Message Bible” say’s, Jesus touched their eyes and said, ‘ Become what you believe!’
Remember this, “You are today what you believed about yourself yesterday!” Blind faith is actually faith that looks to Jesus in everything! [Prayer].
