A House of Overflow Text: II. Timothy 3:1-5
Paul’s teaching Timothy that association can either be positive or negative. Paul is telling Timothy “ that if you are going to grow in God and keep His joy and peace plus become a powerful leader and anointed man of God there are some things you must stay away from, and some things you must draw towards! Paul is warning Timothy that an overflow of fruit and Spirit doesn’t just happen! He’s saying, “ That overflow comes through our connections!”
I. Vs.5 tells us, to turn away from people who only have a form of godliness, but deny its power!
A. Listen, I’ve always have missed this whole verse because I read it out of context This verse is saying that real Godliness has power pack conviction! You can’t have just form and receive conviction. It’s saying, you can’t live like the world and then expect to live anointed with overflow!
B. This is the way I read vs.5 in the past. Some people have a form of godliness, but don’t have any power! That’s not the full message! God desires that everyone here walks Godly and understands that a real Godly walk brings self-control, power, overflow, authority and anointing!
C. Matthew 5:48 Therefore you shall be holy (Complete), just as your Father in heaven is holy. (Complete)
D. This church can’t be just about Sunday Morn, and Sunday night even Wednesday! It’s about deciding to become sold out for a cause (Jesus Christ) 24-7. Why are churches in trouble? Why are marriages in trouble? We are not living Holy because Holiness is the position of a person’s heart! (They can’t live like they once lived!)
E. Living in a house of overflow means: #1. We think differently! Isaiah 26:3 Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.
F. Phil. 4: 6-7 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.7And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
G. Living in a house of overflow: #2. Comes with the company you keep!
H. If you are around people who drag you down you are commanded by God’s word to leave and flee! Romans 12:21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. Did you know that evil can come by something so little as someone’s evil report!
I. Living in a house of overflow: #3. Means you have an attitude change about the house of God! God’s house is where overflow begins. Change occurs. God’s house is “His house”, so what is your attitude? Spiritual warfare begins with every individual being filled with love, prayer and grace!
J. Psalm 5:7 But as for me, I will come into Your house in the multitude of Your mercy; In fear of You I will worship toward Your holy temple.
K. Living in a house of overflow: Means you have a Spirit of receptivity! Nehemiah 8:5-6 And Ezra opened the book in the sight of all the people, for he was standing above all the people; and when he opened it, all the people stood up. 6 And Ezra blessed the LORD, the great God. Then all the people answered, “Amen, Amen!” while lifting up their hands. And they bowed their heads and worshiped the LORD with their faces to the ground.
L. Living with a Spirit of overflow, or living in a house of overflow means: #4. You have a hunger for His Spirit! Forms won’t do because you understand that having a form isn’t having His power! Having His power and authority is having Godliness! Holiness is the only thing that brings fulfillment!
