Where is your hope?
I. What are the truths that require action
A. You are loved by God! vs. 2
B. You are sanctified by the Spirit of God! vs. 2
C. You are born again! vs. 3
D. You have a living hope! vs. 3
E. You have an inheritance! vs. 4
F. You will face trials! vs. 6
G. You believe in a real person, Jesus! vs. 7
H. You are able to rejoice greatly! vs. 9
II. Since these statements are true, what should we do? vss. 13-16
A. Prepare our minds for action. vs. 13
B. Be self-controlled. vs. 13
C. Set your hopes on Jesus. vs. 13
D. Do not be conformed to our evil desires. vs. 14
E. Be holy as God is holy. vss. 15-16
III. What does the language say?
A. The different texts: first clause
“set your hope fully” – NIV
“rest your hope fully” – NKJV
“be totally ready to receive” – The Message
“set your hope wholly and unchangeably” - AMP
“look forward intelligently” – Living Bible
“fix your hope completely” – NASB
“set your hope fully” – ESV
From the Greek NT –
1) to hope a) in a religious sense, to wait for salvation with joy and full confidence 2) hopefully to trust in
2) expectation of good, hope in the Christian sense joyful and confident expectation of eternal salvation that is within ones reach

“on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed” – NIV
“upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ” – NKJV
“the gift that’s coming when Jesus arrives”

“on the grace (divine favor) that is coming to you when Jesus Christ (the Messiah) is revealed.”

“to more of God’s kindness to you when Jesus Christ returns” – Living Bible
“on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.” – NASB

From the Greek NT - existed among Christians a wide expectation, founded on of the speedy return of Christ.
IV. So how are you I to apply this to yourself today?
A. You should understand two major ideas, which are linked.
1. Sight on a gun
2. Anchor to a rock – rock climbing.
B. You should be “sighted in on” or “anchored to” two things.
1. The “grace” of Jesus Christ – Now and Then
2. The coming of Jesus Christ
C. There are reasons this is necessary for you.
1. To help you remember “every knee will bow.”
2. To help you remember evil will be destroyed.
3. To help you remember our salvation and glorification.
4. To help you remember coming of His kingdom.
5. To help us remember we are not of this world.
V. So what now?
A. You should be spiritually ready
B. You should be spiritually restraint
C. You should have hope. (What does this mean?)
1. Desiring
2. Picturing
3. Expecting
4. Longing
5. Holding on
D. You should ask ourselves: Is this how I am now living?
