Signs and Wonders – 2 The Power of the Word

Review

What are signs and wonders…

Signs and Wonders are Demonstrations of the spirit that can’t be explained designed to bring Glory honor to God.

They are:

• Healings

• Favor and break throughs

• Manifestations of God’s Glory

• Miracles - something our of nothing.

• Joy – Laughter

• Casting out Demons

• The Greatest is Salvation.

Mark 16:17

These signs will follow those that believe.

How do we insure that the demonstrations of the spirit follow us? Evidence that God is real.

1. God’s word needs to be the priority in our life..

In order to keep things in the right perspective we as a church have to have a love for God’s word. For some the priority in their life is anything but the word of God.

With out God’s word preached and lived in our lives there will be no signs and wonders.

There is no greater power than the word of God.

Jesus understood this…and we are to be like Jesus

1 John 4:17

… because as he is, so are we in this world.

My apologies to the unsaved here today that have been hurt or turned off by self righteous hypocritical people.

Too many times we come to church just to see what God will do rather than what we can do for God.

Signs and Wonders are proof that the word of God is living in us

Luke Chapter 4

The devil tested/tempted Jesus in three principle area’s:

This covers any and every principle of temptation that we face today.

1. His fulfillment was in the word:

Luke 4:1-4 (English Standard Version)

1And Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the wilderness 2for forty days, being tempted by the devil. And he ate nothing during those days. And when they were ended, he was hungry. 3The devil said to him, "If you are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread." 4And Jesus answered him, "It is written, ’Man shall not live by bread alone.’"

Jesus was hungry…and was tempted at His weakest moment.

Jesus said that Man shall not live by bread alone.

Mark 4:18-20 (Amplified Bible)

18And the ones sown among the thorns are others who hear the Word;

19Then the cares and anxieties of the world and distractions of the age, and the pleasure and delight and false glamour and deceitfulness of riches, and the craving and passionate desire for other things creep in and choke and suffocate the Word, and it becomes fruitless.

Matthew 5:6

Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

2. His life was submitted to the word :

Luke 4:5-8 (English Standard Version)

5And the devil took him up and showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time, 6and said to him, "To you I will give all this authority and their glory, for it has been delivered to me, and I give it to whom I will. 7If you, then, will worship me, it will all be yours." 8And Jesus answered him, "It is written,

"’You shall worship the Lord your God,

and him only shall you serve.’"

Some people that call themselves Christians are not submitted to the word of God. They are submitted to their flesh.

1 John 3:4-9 (English Standard Version)

4Everyone who makes a practice of sinning also practices lawlessness; sin is lawlessness. 5You know that he appeared to take away sins, and in him there is no sin. 6No one who abides in him keeps on sinning; no one who keeps on sinning has either seen him or known him. 7Little children, let no one deceive you. Whoever practices righteousness is righteous, as he is righteous. 8Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil. 9No one born of God makes a practice of sinning, for God’s[a] seed abides in him, and he cannot keep on sinning because he has been born of God.

You can’t submit to God without submitting to His word.

3. His Understanding of the word:

the devil quote Psalm 91:11-12 to show that God had promised this assistance, although the devil omits the part of that passage which makes clear that it is only accidents that are being referred to, not deliberate jumps.

“God’s power comes in through a person who is able to overcome sin by being faithful to God’s word.”

Matthew 5:12-14 (English Standard Version)

12Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

13"You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet.

14"You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.

God’s word needs to be the reality in our life.

To understand it is to act on it.

This is the difference from demonic faith and a believers faith.

1 John 2:4 (English Standard Version)

4Whoever says "I know him" but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him,
