Where is Your God?

Jude 1:5 Monte T. Brown

Introduction

In lite of all the events that have taken place in the past two years, we have heard the world ask the church “Where is your God?”

From 9/11 to the war on terror these words ring out loud and clear!

“Where is your God?”

Jude 1:5

But I want to remind you, though you once knew this, that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who did not believe.

The Lord dealt with the children of Israel, because they had quit seeking him. They were seeking the Lord in the things of the world.

I wonder if we too are not guilty of this very thing. Do we seek peace and happiness in the things of the world?

Psalm 42:3-10

My tears have been my food day and night, While they continually say to me, "Where is your God?"

4When I remember these things, I pour out my soul within me. For I used to go with the multitude; I went with them to the house of God, With the voice of joy and praise, With a multitude that kept a pilgrim feast.

5Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him For the help of His countenance.

6O my God, my soul is cast down within me; Therefore I will remember You from the land of the Jordan, And from the heights of Hermon, From the Hill Mizar. 7Deep calls unto deep at the noise of Your waterfalls; All Your waves and billows have gone over me. 8The LORD will command His lovingkindness in the daytime, And in the night His song shall be with me-- A prayer to the God of my life. 9I will say to God my Rock, "Why have You forgotten me? Why do I go mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?"

10As with a breaking of my bones, My enemies reproach me, While they say to me all day long, "Where is your God?"

Job’s friends where trying to help him, by using the knowledge and ways of the world.

God was not impressed with their wisdom.

So I would ask you this question, which brings me to the title of my message.

Where is your God?

If this question where asked of me, what would I say? My reply would be:

1. He is above us.

Joshua 2:11

And as soon as we heard these things, our hearts melted; neither did there remain any more courage in anyone because of you, for the LORD your God, He is God in heaven above and on earth beneath.

If God is above us, then he is over us.

If he is over us, then he knows about us.

If he knows us, then he created us.

If he created us, then we should worship him.

2. He is around us.

Psalm 125:2

As the mountains surround Jerusalem, So the LORD surrounds His people From this time forth and forever.

When your friends let you down. GOD IS THERE!

When your family lets you down. GOD IS THERE!

When you job gets to you. GOD IS THERE!

When life deals you a heavy blow. GOD IS THERE!

When you feel all alone. GOD IS THERE!

Just as God never forsaken Job, he will never forsake you.

Just as God blessed Solomon, he will bless you.

Just as God had patience with Peter, he will have penitence with you.

3. He is before us.

Exodus 13:21

And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead the way, and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so as to go by day and night.

Just as in the day of the pioneers, as they would travel, the men would go before the women and children, to assure that everything was all safe ahead.

God to goes before us to make sure that our travel is safe. It’s not until we step out on the path that the Lord has blazed for us that we get into trouble.

4. He is behind us.

Isaiah 30:21

Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, "This is the way, walk in it," Whenever you turn to the right hand Or whenever you turn to the left.

Even though the Lord goes before us to make our paths save. He also is behind us, to protect us from the attacks of the enemy.

The enemy is always at our right hand and left hand. He is behind us and ahead of us. He is always trying to entice us with his smooth words of temptation.

5. He is beneath us.

Deut. 33:27

The eternal God is your refuge, And underneath are the

everlasting arms; He will thrust out the enemy from before you, And will say, ’Destroy!’

God truly is our refuge. No matter how high we try to sore, he is always beneath us to caught us, when we fall. His compassion over shadows us.

6. He is with us.

Isaiah 41:10-13

Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’

11"Behold, all those who were incensed against you Shall be

ashamed and disgraced; They shall be as nothing, And those who

strive with you shall perish. 12You shall seek them and not find them-- Those who contended with you. Those who war against you Shall be as nothing, As a nonexistent thing.

13For I, the LORD your God, will hold your right hand, Saying to you, ’Fear not, I will help you.’

When we feel that God has forsaken us, we must remember that, he is holding our right hand.

7. He is in us.

Colossians 1:27

To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

God has given us such a great gift. He has given us the presence of the Holy Spirit that dwells in the soul of ever born again child of God.

Where is your God?

1. He is above you.

2. He is around you.

3. He is before you.

4. He is behind you.

5. He is beneath you.

6. He is with you.

7. And He can be in you.

Just give your heart to him today and then God will always be with you.
