Summary: This message shows how our heavenly Father proves His love for us!

PROOF OF OUR FATHER’S LOVE

Key Verse: But God proves his love for us in that while we still were sinners Christ died for us. Romans 5:8

Purpose: To show how God proves His love for us.

Romans 5:1-8

Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us. You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

PROOF OF THE FATHER’S LOVE IS FOUND IN…

1. His Word.

a. He who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me. John 14:24

b. […] may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, […]Ephesians 3:18

2. His Actions.

a. Jesus said to them, "If God were your Father, you would love me, for I came from God and now am here. I have not come on my own; but He sent me. John 8:42

3. His Treatment of Us.

a. But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, because He is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. Luke 6:35

b. But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared […]Titus 3:4a

4. His Promises.

a. "For He has satisfied the thirsty soul, and the hungry soul He has filled with what is good." Psalm 107:9

b. "Make sure that your character is free from the love of money, being content with what you have; for He Himself has said, ’I will never desert you, nor will I ever forsake you.’" Hebrews 13:5

5. His Adoption of Us.

a. How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. 1 John 3:1

6. His Presence.

i. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." – Matthew 28:20

7. His Provision for us.

a. "My God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:19

Life Application:

1. Use these “proofs” to strength your faith in Christ and your relationship with your heavenly father.

2. Prove your love for your children in some of the same ways.

3. Be a “father figure” to someone who has an “absentee father” or whose father is serving in the Armed Forces overseas.
