Summary: We all have Ninevahs and Tarshishes in our lives. Which one has the stronger pull in your life. Jonah found out some lessons from running: He Run from God, Ran into God, and Ran back to God.

The Reluctant Missionary = El Misionero quien faltaba Animo

Run to Win not to Renig (Corre a ganar, no a Renunciar)

Jonah/Jonás 1:1-3 1 ¶ Now the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the son of Amittai, saying, {Jonah: Gr. Jonas} (KJV)

2 Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me. (KJV)

(SRVA)

3 But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of the LORD, and went down to Joppa; and he found a ship going to Tarshish: so he paid the fare thereof, and went down into it, to go with them unto Tarshish from the presence of the LORD.

Jonah/Jonás 3:1-3 1 ¶ And the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the second time, saying, (KJV)

2 Arise, go unto Nineveh, that great city, and preach unto it the preaching that I bid thee. (KJV)

(SRVA)

3 So Jonah arose, and went unto Nineveh, according to the word of the LORD. Now Nineveh was an exceeding great city of three days' journey. {exceeding: Heb. of God} (KJV)

(SRVA)

A person can be sincere, but sincerely wrong

Example: Douglas Corrigan (Wrong Way Corrigan) 1938 flying from New York to Ireland, when his destiny was supposed to be California.

On more than one occasion a "pro" football player has ran the wrong way to score a point for the opposing team.

A short footage of the life of Jonah would be: Pray.......run away....pray through......run.......pray again

We must always remind ourselves that the christian life is not like a 100 yd. dash; it is more like a marathon. We need to stay on course, pace ourself, and keep our eye on the goal.

I. Running from God (Huyendo de Dios)

God talks to Jonah (prayer).----Oración

He gives him a clear command---Orden

Urgency----Operativo Urgente

The answer of Jonah/La respuesta de Jonás

He gets up a runs the opposite way/El corre al camino opuesto

Why? ¿Por qué?

1. despise his calling/un desprecio a su llamada

2. fear/temor/

3. peer pressure/influencia de los amigos

4. laziness/perezoso

Romanos 14:12

12 So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God. (KJV)

(SRVA)

Disobedience will cost you/ Hay un costo para la desobediencia

Jonah paid the fare/pagó su boleto (Jonah 1:3)

"Sin will take you farther than you want to go,

Sin will cost you more than you want to pay,

Sin will keep you longer than you want to stay"

We all have Ninevehs and Tarshishes in our life.

Nineveh = a clear relevation of God's plan for your life/relevación clara

examples: quit a bad habit, change priorities, moving, marriage, etc.

Tarshish = the place we go or the thing we do to avoid or substitute the will of God.

---We may no go physically to Tarshish, but at times we go there with our soul. We busy ourselves with other "good" activities.

--Be careful when the good is the enemy of the best.

II. Running into God (Chocando con Dios)

You can run, but you can't hide.

There are times that God will use drastic measures to get your attention.

Don't think that God wants to take you somewhere that you cannot be content.

Jer. 29:11-13 11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. {expected...: Heb. end and expectation} (KJV)

(SRVA)

12 Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. (KJV)

12 Entonces me invocaréis. Vendréis y oraréis a mí, y yo os escucharé. (SRVA)

13 And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart. (KJV)

(SRVA)

When we continue to be stubborn and bull-headed, God will send a storm our way.
