Resolving Offenses

Summary: Quit running to another church to solve an offense. Be a mature Christian and do it God's way.
Scripture Reading: I Cor 6:1-8, Matthew 18:15-17
I. PRIVATE DISCUSSION vs.15
A. Lowest level possible- thee and him alone
(Compare word offend) great peace have they that love Thy law and nothing shall offend them''
Psalm 119:65- cause them to go astray forever or give up.
''A brother offended is harder to win than a strong city....''Proverbs l8:19 - transgressed against.
B. Goal restitution- gained thy brother (Proverbs 18:19)
II. PEER COUNSEL vs. 16
A. Next level if necessary- if he will not hear (Proverbs 18:17) Take one of his friends if possible
B. Goal - facts established objectively- every word may be established Both sides may be subjective but non-biased people will see objectively.
III. PARISH JUDGMENT vs.17
A. Highest level for Christians- tell it unto the church
B. coal end of trouble- ''Amish'' shunning ''What else can you do but let him be?” Ultimate goal is still restitution- I Cor 5:5(Spiritua1) II Cor 2:6-11(Social)
Beware of a root of bitterness and many be defiled. (Hebrews 12:15)
IV. POWER IN AGREEMENT vs.18-20
A. Accountability for sins- 18
B. Victory in unified prayer- 19,20
V. PURE FORGIVENESS vs 21-22
A. Unlimited forgiveness- 21,22 (7 X 70) Paul and ancestors are as one in sin.
B. Only way to personal peace- Matt 5:23-26, 6:14-15
VI. PARABLE OF SALVATION 23-35
A. What we owe god- 23-27 ($1,000,000,000)
B. What men owe us.- 28-35 ($3,000)
