Robbing Hell

February 4, 2018 Morning Service

Immanuel Baptist Church, Wagoner, OK

Rick Boyne

Message Point: When we lead people to the Lord, we are robbing Hell of souls!

Focus Passage: Matthew 16:13-18 (Pew Bible page 1131)

Supplemental Passage: But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and manifests through us the sweet aroma of the knowledge of Him in every place. For we are a fragrance of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing; to the one an aroma from death to death, to the other an aroma from life to life. And who is adequate for these things? (2 Corinthians 2:14-16 NASB)

Introduction: Describe a personal experience of being robbed or burgled.

I. Rob Hell with the Truth of the Gospel

a. Jesus is the Son of God

i. "I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church; and the gates of Hades will not overpower it. (Matthew 16:18 NASB)

b. Jesus is the ONLY way to Heaven

i. Jesus *said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me. (John 14:6 NASB)

II. Rob Hell by Making Disciples

a. Share the Gospel

i. And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." (Matthew 28:18-20 NASB)

b. Teach them to follow Jesus

c. Teach them to share the Gospel and make disciples to do the same

i. The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also. (2 Timothy 2:2 NASB)

III. Rob Hell by Living Righteously

a. As obedient children, do not be conformed to the former lusts which were yours in your ignorance, but like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves also in all your behavior; because it is written, "YOU SHALL BE HOLY, FOR I AM HOLY." (1 Peter 1:14-16 NASB)

b. For this reason also, since the day we heard of it, we have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so that you will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all power, according to His glorious might, for the attaining of all steadfastness and patience; joyously giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in Light. (Colossians 1:9-12 NASB)

Application/Invitation: Are you doing YOUR part of robbing Hell? Or are you contributing to Hell? If you give your life to Christ, you, personally, are robbing Hell of your own soul. How long has it been since you shared the gospel with another person? How long has it been since you led someone to the Lord? Does your life look like the world or look like Jesus?
