PAUL’S EPISTLE TO THE ROMANS
Lesson #2
8 First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith is spoken of throughout the whole world.
9 For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers;
10 Making request, if by any means now at length I might have a prosperous journey by the will of God to come unto you.
11 For I long to see you, that I may impart unto you some spiritual gift, to the end ye may be established;
12 That is, that I may be comforted together with you by the mutual faith both of you and me.
13 Now I would not have you ignorant, brethren, that oftentimes I purposed to come unto you, (but was let hitherto) that I might have some fruit among you also, even as among other Gentiles.
14 I am debtor both to the Greeks, and to the Barbarians: both to the wise, and to the unwise.
15 So, as much as in me is, I am ready to preach the gospel to you that are at Rome also.
16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth: to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
Verse 8. Paul begins the preface of his epistle to the Romans immediately upon the completion of his salutation. In these verses he attempts to show his good opinion of the Christians at Rome, and to prepare their minds for his reproofs and exhortations.
It is always best to begin with recognizing the good in someone before you begin to teach them what they do no understand or know.
Your faith is spoken of and is celebrated, throughout the whole world and in every place where the Christian religion is professed.
Proverbs 22:1, "A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favor rather than silver and gold."
The testimony of this church is based upon the sum totals of the individual testimony of each of its members. Our church will be known as a loving church, a caring church and a church where the Truth is found only if every member loves others, cares for others and speaks the truth in love.
We can also be known as the judgmental church, the permissive church, or any one of a hundred other names simply because one or two of our membership act in that fashion. Whatever we do, whatever we say, wherever we go, we are in the spotlight. And, everything about us is a direct reflection of the church we attend whether good or bad.
My hope and prayer is that God thinks of Victory Temple in the same glowing terms that Paul spoke of the Roman church. Let our reputation reflect the spirit of love and compassion for the lost and hurting. Let our reputation reflect the conviction that Jesus is the Lord of our lives.
Verse 9: For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers;
I would to God that all of God’s children and every member of this church felt that way for one another. God help us to pray for one another without ceasing.
Make you a list of the names of everyone you can think of and call their name before God in prayer that God would save them, heal them and bless them. How long could you pray then?
If we are truly concerned, we will pray.
